Why the nail knick on an EO Jack?

When your fingers loose their grip. you can still use the nail nick.

Because it's even easier to open with the nick? The nick provides additional purchase. Besides it would look funny if the nick was missing, like the manufacturer forgot a step. People would complain that So-and-so has nonexistent QC and that they can't believe that the knife left the factory without anyone noticing.

^^That.

I think of my 82-year-old Dad when questions like this come up. He has arthritic hands, and his pinch/grip strength isn't nearly what it used to be. He often drops things because of it. My mother has the same issues. So, a little extra purchase via a nail nick could definitely help in situations like theirs. Could also be useful to anyone trying to use the knife with wet/cold hands.

OK, y'all have convinced me. Extra purchase it is. I'd still take an EO Jack with no nail knick over a regular jack with just a knick. ;)
