why use thick washers on liner locks?

I was wondering why some companies, like Benchmade, use thick washers on their liner locks?

Probably makes it easier for them to service and make small adjustments to by adding a thicker, or thinner spacer. Dunno for sure though.

two things...for the most part preclude thick washers....first loose fit on the pivot barrel and the pivot hole...sometimes done on purpose to make a quicker knife.. and second. the tanto and fighter styles that have a flat in the middle of the blade or a flat down to the point, will scratch up pretty bad without a thicker washer to keep the blade away from the titanium liners. there has to be some play or the knife wont work...just like a brand new bridgeport comes with about a .001 backlash...if it was .000 it would lockup.....and when you push on the thumbstud or hole or whatever, the blade deflects in that direction... hope this answers the question...
