You've got TWO in that color?
That must hurt...
Nice picture though.
Think the Benchmade Gravitator made the Spydie Yojimbo - history.
BTW, given the choice between the two, I would rather the Benchmade.
By design, the Yojimbo seems a weaker construction of the two.

have you guys seen the blackhawk blades be-wharned? its a new wharncliff blade with g10 handles that should be out soon, looks awesome.

Isn't the Gravi a liner lock?

I'm thinkin' it's because the first launched production models of the Yojimbo came in that awful shade of "blue" g-10 for scales.
Come on! sky Blue makes it blend with denim???!
I can't help but think that if the first lot came in all black and tactical (it's a martial blade afterall) things might have picked up better initially.

I spoke with Michael Janich about the blue color- he told me that the original knives were supposed to be a custom "denim" blue. The production versions ended up being a standard, stock G10 color (bright blue) because of cost constraints. The clip was supposed to be painted denim blue as well, not mirrored stainless like it ended up.

FWIW, Blackhawk is making a new version of the Yojimbo, also designed with input from Janich- the "Be-Wharned" http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Be-Wharned,1245,37.htm

Well I remember the first time I saw it in an online catalog -- my immediate mental response was "What in the hell is Spyderco DOING with all these ugly bizarro designs lately?"

Low blade/grip ratio, grip looked blocky, color looked like cheap plastic and not G10. Tip looked ultra-fragile, and as mentioned already, like something off a box cutter.

Maybe it was the greatest knife of all time -- I don't know -- but it sent up such a bundle of red flags that I never got anywhere near one. This had to have played a big role in sales...

FWIW I have one and love it. I've got the blue and sometimes I think I'm the only one that likes the color. :)

The handle has a usable choil area, and using that with your thumb on the back of the blade where all the jimping is gives you wonderful control over cuts. It's very comfortable and I've always found wharncliffe's to work well for utility.

I'd like to see this blade shape put on a more compact design, like the Native 3. I carry my Spyderco Spin frequently and find the same to be true about it, that is the blade shape offers excellent tip control and works well for day to day cutting. I'd say for 95% of the cutting I do a straight edge works better than a curved one. Unless I'm slicing food on a cutting board I really don't need any belly because I'm usually using my knife to open a plastic package, slice cardboard, cut tape, nylon straps etc.

Compression lock and G10 texture are great, and FFG S30V is among my favorites for the blade.

It certainly looks goofy though. Closed it looks like a blue triangle. :p

The knife is over priced + the fact itz ugly this is a opinion only,it is a typical box cutter design.....

Nobody wanted it when they could have it and now everybody wants it and will pay 3x what they could have gotten it for, when Spyderco had it in the line. Like everything it's only missed when it's gone.

I find this logic flawed when it comes to the full sized Persian(C83).How can anyone NOT want such a beautiful, functional knife?I've been drooling over this knife on the bay,but refuse to pay $250-$300 for it.I was only aware of it,after it had become discontinued.

The Yojimbo was just plain ugly IMO.

Well then, what made the Benchmade Gravitator History? It's just as discontinued!

To the best of my knowledge, the discontinued this model due to sales. I was interested in the Yojimbo, but focused on finding more ATR's, and Dodo's, with no luck on the Dodo's:(
