Why were there so few Tilts made?

I love the design, and I can't remember the original asking price for the Tilt, but why were so few made? It seems like everyone liked the design and many people want one.

It was made for the knife enthusiasts, not more for everyone. It was created to be special, to be desired and to be great. They succeeded

They Sold for around $225 new. And last time I checked they used most if not all the Vanax 75 Available to make the TILTs

Man, it's too bad they don't make a Sandvik version. I'd gladly pay to have one.

I'm a pretty big fan of their "staple" steel - It holds up well and sharpens relatively easy. C'mon KAI, you could keep the old-school tilts special by not using Vanax while giving everyone a chance for the design.

I do believe Thomas said, that a second run, or variants were not going to happen. What they made is it.

Oh well, there are plenty of knives out there and the best is still yet to come. Technology is improving every year and newer / more exotic materials are going to come available. Instead of paying a ludicrous price for one of these bad boys, better just to live / learn and don't miss out on the next baddy that comes out! I'd love to have a 0777, but I had gotten out of knives when they were offered. I couldnt afford to pay a grand for one of them now. Too bad my income is limited lol, Maybe my buddy can get me one at the blem sale this December. There's still hope!

I really want a DD Shallot. Not exotic, but gonna have to track one of those down.

I bet the knife cost more money to produce than what they were charging for it.
It attracts attention.

I could have sworn Thomas said there would be another knife with Vanax 75. Unless he meant Vanax in general which would be the 0777

That would be awesome if true. I missed the tilt and 0777 - I wont miss another one. Too many hobbies too little time. There are a few cool ones coming out this year

I believe Chester is correct, don't think there will be more 75.

I remember the same thing being said

Not to sound like a complete ignoramus, but what do you guys mean there won't be more Vanax 75? Did Kershaw use the entire available worldwide supply of this steel making the tilt? No more can ever be manufactured again, ever? Or perhaps manufacturing more would not be cost effective to produce knives? Even when they could see the demand for tilts has driven the price so high? Elmax can't be that much worse, and it seems available in quantity seeing as how some production knives use it.

There were/are VERY limited quantities, can't remember if it's due to discontinuation or cost effectiveness/some other reason.

But as of now its not being produced in any sort of great amount.

They may not have used the worlds entire supply. I am sure there is a tiny amount floating around somewhere. Much like BG-42. However Vanax 75 is not being produced anymore by Bohler. The still make Vanax 35 which is what the 0777 used.

^Correct. Vanax 35 was produced first I believe, and then 75. 75 was shortly discontinued, and Vanax 35 was newly renamed Vanax. So yes, aside from whatever is floating around some areas of distribution, the supply of Vanax 75 is dried up. Kind of like the Tilt...

Glad I got one. I actually picked up a Kershaw zipper case for it. Never getting rid of that one.

MSRP was $399 ish, I know some people paid that for them. On the exchange I saw them for as low as $230 on a few occasions.

If I remember correctly, they said on many of these high end, short run knives they dont make much of a profit. They do it as a service to us knife guys and as a show case of the technology.

Mine is sleeping nicely in a safe, I am very happy I was able to get mine too. Love it, and with this new demand for them I would never want to try and afford one. And they are double special, a rare knife with a steel never to be used again.

I totally understand the special part. But I still find myself being a bit disappointed lately with the Limited production pieces KAI has been putting out. I would have loved to have got a 0777, tilt or 0888 but with so few being made I literally had no shot of getting any of them. And in the case of the 0777 the knife they are making to satisfy those who missed it literally has nothing in common with the original that made me want to buy it. I really wish they would have done a 0777 with just a standard stonewashed s30v blade, g10 handle and even a steel lock bar. I am excited for the rexford though. It will have a lot of what I wanted that I missed out on. But just like cars, the best lines get saved for the most exclusive and hard to attain models.

Just thought this thread could use a couple of pics  :p

Bob, how can you NOT use the TiLT. It's 20X more beautiful in use.
