Why Won't Benchmade Let Me Love Their Ergonomics?

I have been using Nano oil on a dozen M4 folders for the past 6 months will no ill effects.

"Why Won't Benchmade Let Me Love Their Ergonomics? "

They will. You just have to pull the trigger.
The 810 didnt fit me, so I ground down the liners & scales.
Other that that, have at it! Lots of cool blades with the best lock out there.
Be sure to get an Axis lock model, & you will be hooked.

I am loving the axis on my new 940. It's just far and above. I just don't have anywhere near enough confidence in my grinding/sanding abilities to go at a 170 dollar knife. But I'd really like to like the Contego.

A few years ago I became disdainful of the coating on my 940 wearing off after only a little cardboard... So I grabbed sandpaper and started learning about sanding, no more crisp factory grind lines. I loved the change, loved and still love. Then I started sanding the handles, smooth lines replaced the sharp factory grinds, then I sanded the thumb studs, round and smooth. It was beautiful, it felt great, I couldn't use it, I had polished it, made it mine and it was too nice to use.

I did what any maniac would do, I gave it to my electrician brother to beat the snot out of it. He loved it and won't even trade it back for a new knife. He enjoys the work I put into it, he loves it as much as I do.

I'm not saying jump into playing with modifications, I could have just as easily destroyed the knife; I didn't and if I had I would have learned more from the process.

Blade play can be adjusted at the pivot screw. Use a very slick lube and you can tighten the pivot down farther. I had very slight blade play in my 520 Presidio when adjusted the way I wanted it (flick open with the lock instead of thumbstud) when using Tuff-Glide, CLP, or Weapon Shield. I applied some Nano-Oil to the pivot and tang, and tightened the pivot screw down more. I am still able to flick it open the way I want and there is now no blade play at all. I did the same with my Rift and mini-Grip. Not sure I want to use Nano-Oil with an M4 blade, after my latest rust test, but it is definitely slicker than anything else I've used. I may have to disassemble it and give FrogLube a shot to see if it will be as slick (and protect better).

I wouldn't worry too much about the contego rusting. There are only a few spots on the blade that aren't coated. I was using blue lube before I came across your test thread, Now I use Nano lube. Everything is just as shiny as when I got it and I regularly soak my knives in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with hot water and Dawn dish soap.

I do use eezox on my non coated blades now instead of tuf glide. Thanks again!
