Why you should carry a knife.

I've carried a knife(s) daily for over five decades. Why change now? To quote an old Nordic proverb, " a knifeless man is a lifeless man."

I was involved in a bad collision some years ago, let me tell you what happened inside the interior cabin. The glove box door popped open and all the contents were thrown about, including my trauma shears and Benchmade Rescue Hook that ended up under the passenger seat, anything clipped to the sun visor was lost as well. My seat belt jammed and I had to kick the drivers side door to get out. My small child was strapped inside her car seat in the back and I immediately got her out of the car fast, there was hissing and smoke coming from the engine bay, you know what the only thing that stayed put? my knife clipped inside my pocket. I witnessed a car fire once, took about 10 seconds to engulf the small car, passengers just got out......Lesson validated, have your knife ON your person.

Good on you man. I'm glad you and your daughter are safe. Unfortunately you can only carry a knife here if its for work. Often times when the cops stop you for a knife it get really hard to prove its for work, unless u have some company ID or something, even then they are still suspicious.

Only place your safe over here from cops stopping knife carriers is in the forest hiking and camping.

Are you in Canada?
Here you don't have to have silly reasons like needing it for work...you can carry a knife just because you like carrying a knife. :)

Just don't say it's for stabbing people...you probably aren't carrying it for that anyway.
I had an instance where the cops in the city had occasion to need to see what knife I was carrying; it was a 5 inch blade Cold Steel voyager. No problem with carrying it.

That is a shame they are so strict, especially where you live!

I cannot fathom not having a knife on me daily, and that's why I love serrated knives, because then you have two types of knives on you, a serrated one and a PE one closer to the tip.

Like that seatbelt, engage it with the serrations and one good pull, that thing is cut. Know how it took him a little while to cut it? It was probably a PE knife.

But not to detail this thread - it should be everyone's right to carry a tool daily that helps them get through life easier, period. Especially nowadays with all these tough plastic clamshell packages!

Yea it really does. I'm getting a Spyderco Manix 2 XL and I'm thinking of getting a serrated blade like a Tenacious full serration. They're like 50$ on Amazon right now.

As for the laws here its only an issue in the city. Once I'm out of school I'm gonna go farther out away from the city, there's quite a few mountains around, makes some excellent valleys to live in.
