aloha all,

one question. why was the manix line discontinued? thanks in advance.

Poor sales.
It was popular on the forums, but I guess that's not enough to keep something in production. Personally I really wish I could get a second chance with the knife (well, third. There was that sprint run in June). Having recently aquired a Mini-Manix, and seeing how well it fit my hand, the full size model probably would have been real dreamy.
Oh well. At least I know I like Eric's designs, a lot. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
 
i hear ya! i just scored one full size last week. it's a tank! i wish they still made these! i'd get 2 or 3 more! i just hate paying huge mark ups on the secondary market!

Sal, is there just one new model coming, or are both the Large and Mini Manix getting an update?

Just one first. Eric has a design for the larger one, but we'd like to work with one first. New stuff always has glitches and solutions must be learned.

Wow thats a dream come true a full size manix with a caged ball lock. That's really what I would put down to be the perfect folder if I could pick out everything on it. That just made my day thanks Sal.
 
I should know this, but what is the cage ball lock for?. Stronger, easier to release?.:confused:
 
It's just easier to manipulate. Look at the P'Kal for the first example of the lock's use. IMO With the cage it might be a little harder to clean, but it will also be a lot easier to use.

Easier to use, but I still love the feel of my D'Allara with the smooth ball. Looks cool, very tight lockup, and a great conversation starter. The only think I don't like is that I can't tip-up carry it.
 
If they think the manix wasnt a popular enough seller. Why would it be any more popular with this new lock. I know you said easier. but most people dont know about this type of lock. The lockback has been around alot longer, so you would think that people would rather have the lockback version.

Perhaps because knives are dropped from the lineup based on current sales, or rather lack thereof. The Manix probably sold enough units, total, in the years it was in the lineup, to have been worth manufacturing. However, it did not sell enough in its final year to justify keeping it around for another in its original form. The foliage green Sprint Run sold well and quickly, so the design obviously does have a following. Who knows, we may still see a digi-camo version - not my cuppa, but does seem to be in vogue. The ball lock version will give collectors reason to buy another, ball lock devotees reason to buy one, and folks who dislike the front/mid/back lock reason to at least consider one.

CAGED ball lock, once again look at the P'Kal to get an idea of what it'll be like. If you didn't like the ball lock because it was too slippery, then this is exactly the upgrade you're looking for.
