Why would someone sign up as a bladeforum.com member, not make any posts, and then send me a friend request after a couple of weeks? It doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe they are very impressed with you? Like a fan and even though they'd never post on a public forum because they are too shy. They still are so impressed with you, that they cannot pass up a chance (however slight) to be friends.
