Its the law, been said a few times. Its a legal issue, also said.
Most teenagers think they are mature and responsible and some may seem more responsible than others, we have all been there. The truth is its age and experience that gives validation to that maturity. Someone mentioned batoning an SAK? That is one instance of where a responsible adult using there cognitive thinking would say "No Way!" (not all adults are responsible either, which would explain that you may have seen or heard of someone doing that) I'm not saying you cant handle it or your not as mature as others your age, but I am saying that from a legal liability issue your not ready yet. When your older you will appreciate this more. Hang on, your time is just around the corner!

EDITED to add: I think it would be great for the forum to host a "Sub 18 only" giveaway. I like the idea so much I will donate a RAT Fire Kit to the effort!

i thought it was cause kids cant enter into legal contracts..... and give away is in a form a legal contract of some form. that and having to go threw parents and getting written concent etc to be free and clear... is a pain in the ass honestly. i have honestly never studied the age restrictions of blades for buying or selling honestly... i bought half a dozen knives between the ages of 10-16..... and havnt really kept up with the law in that aspect. and frankly you would have to check out 50 state laws and keep it updated... its just a pain in the ass honestly.
 
Because just like other things in life, like driving and voting, and riding roller coasters, you don't get to do it until your a certain age/height.

It's called life..........

If you're really responsible, and your parents think so, they can create an account and enter on your behalf, and then they give you anything you might win. I know it seems unfair, but until you are 18, your parents are responsible for you, and it's really their call.

Bad idea. Someone would pee themselves over a fire kit as well.

Now if we had a sub-18 contest for a KSF otterbox and holt rig, that could probably work. I mean, it's a box for crying out loud.
 
you sir are not the only person in the RAT forum under the age of 18 and it is a legal issue only.
There are contest design for those under 18, Zippo,T-shirt and a few more are coming .

The more I read this , it Irks me .... Why B/C No exceptions will be granted , This was a Rulle Shotgunner & I suggested to Jeff as a precaution, all it takes is one person to be upset at RC and say they won a knife ,slit their wrist and the parents sue .
RAT Cutlery does not Discriminated against no one and The Law is what it is. Grow up and deal with it,If your parents want to join BF and get a RP# and hope of winning a free Knife fine with me but until 18 years of age you can only participate in the non knife contest ,Which we designed for the Under 18 RP peeps so you would not feel left out. You just cant please everyone,That in itself is life,I like you and want you to be an active member of the RP and join in on discussions but no exceptions on this rule of being 18,Sorry
 
Sorry man, while Tony and I are acting in an offical capacity for RAT we have to take steps to protect the company legally.

It's nothing personal and were not trying to discriminate against you but the law is the law. RAT could get into a lot of trouble for selling, handing out or otherwise putting knives in the hands of minors.
 
Lighten up buddy, I'm under 18 and I don't see the big fuss over it.

No point getting all worked up over a freebie that more likely than not you won't get. Either way it is up to the person running the contest to set the rules. If he says only 18+, then its just that. And of course there is a reasoning behind it, the legal issues.

Its like members who won't sell overseas. I can't even count the number of times I've watched a good deal slip by because it was "CONUS" only. When asked why, I'm nearly always told the reason is its too much trouble. I'm not going to go have a go at him. People have their reasons and you just have to respect that.
 
The moderators have spoken and explained this very well so there is no need sending us email. It's just the way it is. Tony, Shotty, appreciate yall dealing with this as you did.
