Why?

Ford Pinto or Ferrari F430 Spyder? They'll both get you there but which one would you prefer to drive?

Let me preface this post by saying that I mean it to be very good-natured, but I will probably draw the ire of 90% of you. OK, here goes:

I carried a $10 Kershaw 1710 Ace for years, and never felt the need for more knife. Why do you guys carry $400 letter openers and box cutters?

In other posts by you, you indicate that you own a Sage 2, several Benchmades/Spydercos. As far as I know, the Sage 2 is a $150 knife. You should be able to answer your own question.

Because collecting knives made more sense to me than collecting stamps...And the expensive ones are always more fun to carry:D:D

Yea I just noticed that myself! Looks like he owns and uses more than just a Kershaw Ace! :jerkit:

I bought 3 Benchmades before I bought my first Spyderco. Since then, I have purchased 4 more Spydercos, and only one more Benchmade. I currently have my eye on 3 more Spydercos, and no Benchmades at all. I guess you could say I've been converted.

I just got my Sage 2 a couple of days ago

Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian and SOG Flash I. [He EDC's - Ed]

I have a Delica 4 in ZDP-189.
 A cry for attention perhaps?

Maybe he's just wondering why he can't control his compulsive behavior. Really the first thing that you must do if you want to get better is to acknowledge that you have a problem. I'm Chuck, and I'm a knifeaholic...

Hey, that's a good idea! a support system called KA.

gkrausmann = Dave Ramsey :rolleyes:

Don't buy more than you need. But I always "NEED" more.

The Rolling Stones had a song that dealt with 'satisfaction' or the pursuit thereof. The concept is applicable in the realm of collecting and using cutlery. Why not use a simple, sharp, stainless SAK for all your needs? People won't because it is human nature not to ever derive complete satisfaction out of anything. Also consider the boredom factor: why have hickory slab handles when a svelte Indian stag that has been artistically bonded is at hand? Also, the vast majority of folk here enjoy and favor CHOICE. This is perhaps the strongest underlying cause of the 'knife' addiction that forces a seemingly normal Kershaw user to perambulate through the dizzying array of comments and opinions posted on these pages. Search around and you'll find ill-favored advice, random stupidity, ribald hilarity, impoverished tests, strident photos and sage advice. The enjoyment factor will only be lost to those incurious souls who never venture beyond the servitude of normalcy.

You get what you pay for = true

I want to carry and use the highest quality in terms of both materials and workmanship tools that I can afford that is why.

Why not and last but not least

I do a whole lot more with my "pocket knife" than cut boxes and open letters, the knife in my pocket now has spent lots of time in lots of places like the Gulf of Mexico and up in tops of hardwood trees and everywhere in between. Send me that 10 dollar kershaw and I'll send it to you rusted out and probably beat to hell in 3 months or less and that will be wore out.

Hi gkrausmann -

I do it just to make people who carry $10 knives wonder why.
:D

best regards -

Closing this one down.

In looking at the OP's posting history where he claims to own nicer knives, he already knows the answer since he supposedly has made the decision to carry them.

This thread served no purpose other than to troll Blade forums - a place where a lot of knife nuts hang out and actually contribute knowledge to others. There is nothing wrong with an inexpensive knife. Most of my non-knife nut friends carry inexpensive knives that work for them and they are happy with them. Nothing wrong with that.
