Wich folder is the slowest?

Sitting here playing with an Opinel 8 and this knife must be the slowest operating folder on the market. I dont´t think it can be opened (in a safe way) under 5 seconds (unlock it, open the blade, lock it).

A "quick" cut will take at least 15 seconds. Open=5 sec, Cut= 5 sec, Close=5 sec.

Same cut will take about 5,5 sec with my Axis lock Benchmades (open=a blink of the eye, cut=5 sec, Close=a blink of the eye).

Or do you know of anything slower????

I don't have any nominations, but I just wanted to say this is a hilarious idea for a thread! :D

I don't know about your 5 second cut. I think I might be able to do two cuts at least in 5 seconds.

Checked: With just cutting, I can do 6 (snap) cuts and 1 stab in 5 seconds.
Checked: Opinel is a 6 second open, cut twice, and close. Not counting draw time. With draw and put away, 9 seconds.

Other Folders (2 cuts)
Kershaw Leek: 5 seconds. Counting draw time, and putting away.
CS Ti-Lite: 5 seconds. Waved: 4 seconds. Counting draw time, and putting away.
Buck 110: 6 seconds total.
Cheap Chinese "Super Knife": 6 seconds total.
CS Pocket Bushman (chosen for it's unique locking mechanism): 7 seconds total.

All results recorded with a stopwatch and rounded up.

You guys must be amateur Opinel operators, I can get mine out of my pocket and locked open in under 3 seconds. I've never timed myself opening a clam shell package before though, nor have I felt the dire need to become faster at it?

Is it the knife that opens slow, or is it the operator who's opening the knife that's slow? :D

That´s ok, but do you know of any slower folder than the Opinel?

Not off the top of my head, but I've never put any thought into either. I think there are more factors than just the knife, like how comfortable/used to someone is with said knife. If someone can open the Opinel faster than another person with a modern 1 hander, does that mean the modern knife is slower?

My Cold Steel Twistmaster is unbeatable in this respect. It has more friction than an Opinel (on which it is modeled I'm sure), and so takes a week to deploy.
It's worth the wait though. :D

That gave me a good chuckle xD

My nomination for "slowest to open" would be the Cold Steel Black Rock Hunter. Takes two hands and you need to move deliberately so that it does not close on your hands.

Now, once it is open, it's as stable as a table. The closest thing to a fixed blade there is. And closed is very secure. I really like the design and I keep mine in my emergency bag. But fast opening, it is not.

Yeah, the BRH is not exactly a Spetsnaz ballistic knife either. ;) Cold Steel has a few real snails for knives where deployment is concerned!

Less scientifically done, but second leek. Unlock takes two hands, then the spring pushes the sharp part of the blade to right where my thumb is, necessitating a multi-stage, careful operation to open

My sloswet knife is a knockoff Laguiole folder with a corkscrew. I'm not going to measure it's speed but it's pretty darn slow.

Deploying my Lion Steel Opera you time with a calender. Gotta slip it out of the case and its tough to deploy the blade cuz no nail nick so your finger slips off from time to time. Maybe not the glacial pace of the Opinel but def not a quicky.
