Hi folks,

to avoid endless discussion about steel, heat treatment, grind type, serration or not ... I just would like to know, based on your own experience, wich is the sharpest knife you have ever used (however the task)

My #1 is the Cold Steel X2 plain edge

Thanks for reply !

Bark River Fox River was scary sharp right out of the box. IN fact, most of theirs are scary sharp out of the box.

Cold Steel, Al Mar, Mcusta, Benchmade...all of these have been beyond sharp when I got them. When I bought my first Al Mar Eagle years ago I tried shaving the hair on my arm and lifted a nice flap of skin....lol.

Benchmade 960 Osborne Design and the Spyderco 75mm Persian come to mind as being the sharpest production I have received in the last few years.

After 5mins on a waterstone I would say that the Opinel (carbon) is the sharpest blade I have ever handled.

In my experience, Spyderco seems to be able to produce the most consistently sharp knives out of the box.

MY latest HELLE-EGGEN triple blade is huuuuuuugely sharp. You can cut a thin strip of nail of your thumb with ease.

And secondly i baught a rough old looking Russ Green river knife of the bay for a couple of quid, and when cleaning the blade, it cut through the cloth, and my fingers without me re-alising till it was to late.

i've had really good luck with spyderco and kershaw coming from the factory scary sharp.

I don't think I had a truly sharp knife until I had a Bark River. They cut better than all my other knives I have bought right out of the box.

Basic Mora carbon knife can be stropped so that you can shave with it.

Helle Eggen is up there.

Kellam Wolverine blade is sharp, but you can buy the Lauri PT blade for under $20.

I stropped a Bark River Aurora to the point where it could 'halve' a hair. Hold a hair horizontally by one end and bring the knife edge against it to cut.

Then there are my custom knives...

The Fallkniven TK3 has been the sharpest knife I've ever purchased. Hair shaving with ease.

I've always said that my Kershaw ENER-G was the sharpest out-of-the-box knife I've ever seen...until I got the Blur in SG2.

I've had some very sharp spydes, too, but not as sharp as the two mentioned.

The sharpest production knife I own currently is my Kershaw ENER-G.

For the sake of discussion my sharpest knife was a Sparrowhawk by Lamont Coombs. 3.5 inches of laser like sharpness. (until I used it solidly for a couple of months)

I think sharpness really is relative. My most used knives don't need to be hair-popping sharp so they rarely are.

My experiences so far has led me to believe that all knives from Scandinavia are very sharp, EKA, Hella and Marttiini knives all will shave hair out of the box. My Spyderco Delica also will shave out of the box but so will my Camillus large lockblade but cannot say that others from the manufacturers listed will also be always sharp.

i would say spyderco and anza knives, got a bastard II and i'ts incredibly sharp
@ least this it my opinion :-)

good sharpened knives are sharp :-))
