WICK: Wound, Immediate Closure Kit

I'd be in for a group buy, this sounds like an awesome little dedicated kit to have, Don. I found one vendor that is selling the 4.5"x7" 3-pack alosaks for under $7, am I allowed to put the name up or is that deal spotting? I don't know if there are other vendors that do larger bulk orders.

For the small Steri-Strips a box of 50, her cost, is $50.51 and for the larger ones, they are slightly over 80.00 for 50 of them. I'll check Evil-Bay and see if we can get them cheaper there but I doubt we are going to do much better. Still checking on Tegaderm.

A lot of things can be found for lower prices at home care supply stores. I've done some big buys, and they sell from the case rather than the smaller bits at most pharmacies. the other thing I found useful was small bottles of saline, sold for way to much at the pharmacy as "eye/ear wash" but in bulk makes great wound flushing solution. better suited for a large group kit than a PSK, but handy none the less.
I need me some of those alosaks to replace the freezer bags I'm using now.

yup....i went to a home care supplier (retail) last week for some stuff. spent over $40 on 10 Tegraderm and 18 steristrip closures..... brutal.......

I think we can do better than that with her discount. If not, we will act like a hunting dog and hunt. :D

Who wants to assemble them or get the ALOKSAKs, perhaps that should be the dude that assembles the kits... I could send him the 3M stuff and bandages and just get reimbursed later on and the guy who gets the ALOKSAKs could put them together and send them out, collect the monies, etc.

Let me get with my Wife on the 3M Tegaderm and Steri-Strips. She has already tried to get Dermabond but that was a washout and I tried a ParaMedic I know and it was a washout for him as well. That's the one thing we would probably have to get off of E-bay. I just have to get a price on the other stuff with her discount. 8-)

If Johnson & Johnson Bioclusive clear dressings are less expensive than Tegaderm, we might be able to go with that as well. Povidone-Iodine prep pads won't be much at all.

I reckon one of you gents could check www.aeromedix.com or some other site that sells ALOKSAKs and see what the cost on that would be, etc.

Add a few J & J gauze pads in the kit and you would have the basic wound closure kit without the Burn-Jel and a couple other things, but it would still be an excellent little pocket kit to deal with minor to medium severity lacerations and serious scuffs, scrapes and abrasions...

My point Don, is that kit in total is what would be a great group buy inclusive of everything listed. We could get around the Aloksak by just sending them out in quart ziplocks to be repacked by the person getting it. I have some Aloksaks already, and this would keep the cost down by allowing folks to use prexisting bags they own. I'll fron the money for the ziplock bags for everyone if need be. Could'nt be but a few bucks for standard ziplocks boxes:thumbup:

Don, kind of like what was done with the patches for WSS.

I'd raise my hand but I intend to move in the next month or so, so I don't want the responsibility of being on the move and fullfillment. Like I said I'd pay for a few qt size boxes of ziplocks to get these packed a few dollars cheaper, then let folks use bags they have to store it.

A few years ago I soke by phone with the woman who owns Aloksack and she is a very capable business woman. I think she would give a bulk purchase for 50-100 bags. I don't have her contact info now, but if you buy a new bag it's all on the packaging.

You just reminded me of something. Who is the point of contact for the patches? I never received mine, I think the money order got lost and then my computer crashed and I forgot all about that!

I say we start a thread with a head count for the kits. This will give us a feel for how many items are going to be ordered. I say leave the thread counter up for a week starting tonight through next Sunday. If you're on the list you're in for a kit at the price Don figures per person. If you do not want to paypal the cost then you need to Man Up and remove yourself from the list ASAP because it affects the final kit price for other people.

Don, you have the floor, take it away...

Don, it was Preacherman, and what patches did you order? He did a second batch so he may have extras. I have'nt seen him around here in months, though I have'nt been here much myself this past year due to arthritisis.

If we're going to just do the kits with ziplock bags, I think I can do the entire thing myself! A box of the Steri-Strips is 50 pieces so I would probably do 2 per kit of the small or whatever - point being, probably do the kits in runs of 25 kits.

I don't even remember! I lost over 5,000 E-mails when the computer crashed, I have no information. I sent one money order and IIRC, he said he didn't receive it and then I think I actually forgot to send the second one because the computer was acting up and eventually croaked. I had another one that lasted about a month and a half after that one and it croaked as well!

Have no fear I have an extra for you, it will have to wait until I unpack since it's in a box among 35 boxes right now. I'll have it for you by the Summer is best guess. If you do it with ziplocks in freezer type bags they hold up ok until it can get into a better bag. Plus the cost stays down for the kit, which is the hard items to assemble, BurnGel, etc.

www.Ironkey.com back it up and it's safe, or use an external hardrive my man! I should talk but at least 90% is on my Ironkey and this laptop is only a year old. I can feel for you losing everything on your computer as I am a Luddite with this thing. My neighbor is the master of computers so I let him mess with it, I give him produce from the garden cause he's got no green thumbs!

Count me as #1 for the Don FAK please in ziplock bag..

Hey, if you frequent similiar forums and can get others interested it could help with the bulk buying and maybe bring the cost down more:confused:
