Wicked edge inbound

Yeah that's completely normal. However, you may have put too much on. You only need a tad of the WE paste on the leather strops, enough to rub a thin layer over the entire strop w/ your finger. But yeah even then a lot will come off on your first few knives, it's no problem just clean it off of the knife edges w/ rubbing alcohol or windex or something.
I put 3 small dots spread apart on each one, misted it with alcohol, then rubbed the paddles together. I was kinda surprised it was smooth side out..

This will probably be a stupid question/follow-up, but... I don't remember what the instructions said. I just put a few drops on the strops and spread them with my fingers and rubbed in. I didn't spray them with alcohol or rub them together. My stupid question: Did I do it wrong, or was it better than what they are now recommending? I haven't had much come off on the strops. If not, what would be the benefit of rubbing the strops together? Is the friction of rubbing the strops together causing the diamond paste to loosen?

I dunno but I likely won't do it that way again. It made stropping feel sticky, and really wasn't effective cause a thick layer quickly built up on the edge..would have to clean it and mist it again with alcohol to prevent it.

It just sounds like you used a little too much... it takes less than you think it does. I did the same thing when I did mine for the first time. Even with the proper amount, you'll have some excess come off on the first few knives.

Also, everybody has a preference, but that 'sticky' feeling you mentioned, if you follow some of the testing W.E. has done, is actually what they recommend:

Super stoked just got my upgraded arms in. So much smoother operation over the original ones.
