It's not a question of which is more useful. The question is which one do you have the aptitude to learn and put to better use. You are asking far too broad a question. By the way, sharpening questions belong in Maintenance, Tinkering, and Emellishment, not in general. Welcome to Bladeforums.

Both, or neither. Any question pitting one sharpening device or method against another is usually grounds for a great debate/fight on these forums.
