As a relative beginner to proper sharpening I've begun seeking out proper tools to make sharp edges and the item I've seen that looks like the best long term investment for me is the wicked edge (possibly adding a ken onion edition work sharp later), but I see the pro pack 1 & 2 is it worth it to save up for the 2 or jump right in with the pro pack 1?

I know that obviously the 2 will have more and allow me more tools to get finer and sharper results, but just starting out is it worth it?

Also where is the best place to purchase wicked edge? I tried contacting direct but got no reply.

Thanks for the help in advance.

If the pp2 has the upgraded arm joints then do it. You will want them later if not. I highly recomend bob from oldawan tools for buying one. He is probably the nicest guy I know and will answer ANY questions you have on the WE. Ive had mine over a year and can't say enough good things about it. The new arms really help tho.

He absolutely would!! Bob nash is a someone I consider a good friend. And I've seen him A LOT at gun shows and actually got offered to help him sharpen next time he's around my neck of the woods. He will answer ANY questions very fast and with great detail. A++++ service I promise :)

That sounds like the kind of guy I'd like to do business with.

can you email me his info? Hopefully if I buy from him you'll get a little discount or something cool. Thanks for the help and the referral.

He is also a member here under oldawan sorry I couldn't figure out how to email you.

Ok for you guys that bought the pro pack 1 do you regret not going all out for the pro pack 2? And is there any savings buy pro pack 2 already assembled versed buying the pro pack 1 then adding the rest of the stoned at a later date?

Thank you again for all the help.

It seems that I'll be using oldawan as the operator/owner of wicked edge had failed to return my email (I may send s follow up since its been right at two weeks since I sent the first email) as of yet.

I would ditch the product if it were anything else, but it seems this is the best of the best and will be how my money is best spent so I'll make that exception.

If I do go with the prop pack 2 I will need to save some more money is there a lansky kit or comparable kit that I should look at to tide me over to keep my knives sharp until the complete pro pack 2 funds are in hand?

Thanks again!

Buy the pro pack 1. It has everything that you'll need. If your heart desires more you can always buy the arms or any extras. Wicked edge doesn't discount anything even though you're buying as a package.

I think you'll be just dandy with the PP1

Thanks for the info I'll see what the eta on my pro pack 2 would be and if it's not to long I'll wait, but if it's a month or two I'll go ahead and jump on the pro pack 1.

I cannot wait to make wicked sharp goodies. I have a handful of Kershaw and other basic knives as well as a kitchen full to keep me busy and learning once whichever pack I choose shows up.

Also strops can you recommend a few decent ones? I'm not sure if all are created equal or not. I've played around with sharpening before but never seriously so I'm looking forward to the learning and the making dull thinks Sharp and safe things :).

The pro packs come with leather strops and diamond paste. But if you want a regular strop with some compound. I recommend Flexx Strops

That's was I was after a stand alone strop. I'll look those up and is there a model you recommend? (Unless they have only one offering.).

Cheers and thanks for all the info!

Be sure to check out Oldawan's selection of pastes and sprays. They carry a lot more than just the WE ones. Also, another vote for Oldawan. Bob is a great guy and very knowledgeable about the WE.

I'll have a few names to drop once I give him a call seeing as the people at wicked edge don't feel it important to contact very serious potential customers back. So many good things said about Oldawan that just seems like to me hes the natural way since wicked edge has left money on the table at least with me.

Clay Allison of wicked edge is great to deal with. His delay might be due to the holiday season but cannot say. I have also heard that there is going to be a field and sport pro that includes the pro pack 2 stuff.

You're probably right and I could be over reacting a bit, but an automated reply might be the way to handle that. Just let those that contact you that you haven't forgotten about them but you'll reply when the surges have slowed down.

I have read so much good about the wicked edge that I'm getting one regardless I just wish I didn't feel blown off is all.

I'll keep an eye out for the new field and sport model and may put my money there.

I just got a pro pack 1 for Xmas from my wife. We purchased directly and dealt with Kyle; the guy is an amazing customer service rep. I am stationed in Germany and there was an issue that came up with shipping to an APO. He went well above and beyond the normal scope of good customer service. I think I remember the WE website saying they were off for a few days after xmas.

I like hearing this and maybe I caught them at bad time, but I did shoot them an email Almost two weeks prior to Christmas.

Thank you for your service and i hope you have a great new by year!

Started out with a pro pack one and bought the upgrade kit later on. I really prefer the guide rods of the pro pack two and the riser block makes it easier to go to lower degrees on smaller knives. I find the angle gauge to be rather essential too. I realize it is a lot of money but I think the upgraded hardware is worth it.
