Wicked Edge vs Edge Pro?

Please do a search. This topic has been covered ad nauseum.

There is probably hundreds of pages of total info regarding WE vs EP.

Well to be a bit more helpful I just ordered the Edge Pro Apex #4 yesterday and it should be arriving next Tuesday. I looked at the Wicked Edge as well and after watching videos I liked how the Edge Pro works more than the Wicked Edge. I didn't want to clamp the blade in a vise. From watching videos on Edge Pro's site it looks like it will be pretty easy once I get the hang of it. For me it came down to ease of use, portability, customer service, and other reviews I watched.

Also the wait times on the Wicked Edge are currently 6-8 weeks. I ordered the Edge Pro last night and it shipped today.

As Crimson said, i'm sure you will find a weath of info if you search the forum.

Its a long way to get the product from China to the US for the WE. they seem to have little control over production.

Do you mind telling what the shipping costs were? I'm assuming somewhere in the $20-25 region.

Matthew, I can't comment on the Wicked Edge, but the Edge Pro turned me from zero to hero. I can't even sharpen a knife on a Sharpmaker (too stupid, clearly), but I can slap a sick, mirrored edge now with the Edge Pro.

Do the search, but just to keep some balance here- The EdgePro is a good system, but for me the WE is easier to use on different (especially smaller)knives and gives better/more consistent results. I sold my EdgePro and kept the WE.

The box and the plastic insert are made in China, the diamonds that are on the paddles come from China as do most of the man-made diamonds used by industries all over the world, the aircraft aluminum vise, angle bar, arms are made in the good old USofA. The Paperstone base they sell is made in the USA, the granite is cut from American quarries and polished in the USA. Hand America who makes the mono crystalline and polycrystaline diamond pastes is an American company. The diamonds though I believe come from China. The Naniwa Chosera stones and Shapton Stones I believe are from China and by the way are also much used by the Edge Pro rig.
My car is from Japan, my camera is put together in the Philippines , my lenses are assembled in Viet Nam, my monitor is from South Korea, my tripod is from China, my hard drives are made in Mexico, my car's tires are from France and I am from Greece. Small world eh! And that is the way the world is now!
Clay has tried to get as much of his rig as he can to be manufactured in the USA...it is not as easy as one thinks to pull that off. But he has said all of this in another place on this forum. Look it up. I don't have to defend him because he has done nothing that needs defending.
I will tell you this...his American staff gets paid in US dollars with which they buy their groceries in American stores and pay their mortgages to American banks, he pays his taxes to the IRS just like many of you. Whatever he spends on things from foreign companies comes back to the USA where the money is spent in the hometowns and neighborhoods of New Mexico and the rest of the USA!
Recently there has been a huge wave of people buying the WEPS and for good reason, it works as advertised and in spades. And because of this set of orders he has to re-order and order again and again. The delay doesn't have anything to do with coming all the way from China, it is just plain logistics and as he adjusts to this heavy flow of business, he will improve the speed with which he gets hid rigs out. He is a careful and thoughtful business man and so he orders wisely according to demand and he will get his orders out better as this tsunami of buying evens out.
Meanwhile Clay continues to try and get more of his stuff made states-side. And as for the waiting period to get a WEPS...it is worth the wait IMO. BTW his customer service is the best you can imagine!! Hang in there!

Best to all
Leo

Naniwa and Shapton stones are from Japan...

American companies CHOOSE to import goods from china not because they can't source them in the US, but because they can usually source them cheaper from China. Given the choice between 2 identical items, I would rather pay a little more and get something made in the US.
Yes we live in a global economy, but supporting the local one improves it. If you are from Greece, you should know first hand about declining economies. This is getting off topic, and I would gladly have this conversation with anyone, but I will choose to support US companies that produce in the US over US companies that import from China.

Thanks Leo, for your explanation and also with the reference from Clay. You know, I've had my Wicked Edge since January and have sharpened many knives with it. It's a great tool to have and a pleasure to use. Yes, it is a world economy and as much as I don't like it sometimes, if you look at the big picture, we have things today that we might not have had otherwise.
I wonder if Clay, being born in the Southern United States and moving to other parts of the country to chase his dreams, had felt like this, the good old USA or no way, we definitely would not be using one of the best sharpening tools available to us. I know Clay continues to search for new companies that can manufacture his dream and when he finds one in the US that he can depend on, he will use them. I wish him the best of luck now and in the future, for he is a hands on kinda guy and he continues to make the Wicked Edge better each day. As for me, I say to keep up the great work.
