Wicked Edge vs Edge Pro?

You are welcome Rob and thank you too!
I believe you are correct. Although I have never met Clay in person, we have written each other, spoken at length on the phone and interacted in other ways...I can tell you that when he finds an American company that can fulfill the needs of the WEPS with excellent QC, he will use that manufacturer in a blink of an eye. He has said so and I believe him.
Clay reminds me very much in many ways of my son who is of the same age ...both are skilled outdoors men, both are super bright, and both are as honest as honest can be...generous and excellent business men. Because the WEPS is as good as it is and because of his integrity and business acumen, I trust Clay and his people. No doubts for me.

Best to all
Leo

That's exactly what Clay is about.
If it's broke he will fix it. I still believe in his lifetime guarantee. No one offers any better.

Naniwa and Shapton stones are from Japan...

American companies CHOOSE to import goods from china not because they can't source them in the US, but because they can usually source them cheaper from China. Given the choice between 2 identical items, I would rather pay a little more and get something made in the US.
Yes we live in a global economy, but supporting the local one improves it. If you are from Greece, you should know first hand about declining economies. This is getting off topic, and I would gladly have this conversation with anyone, but I will choose to support US companies that produce in the US over US companies that import from China.
THANK YOU! All my family, friends, and neighbors work in the USA.

I understand that having the WEPS totally made in the USA would be even better for the economy than it already is and more importantly so does Clay, but as it stands now, this rig would rise in price more than just a bit more. Let's keep in mind that the Wicked Edge USA is a business and as such its livelihood and that of its American employees, depends on a reasonable profit
Clay has happily just negotiated a deal at a great price point with a machinist in Vermont, to manufacture a new add-on device to allow for very steep angles on the WEPS. It will be available soon.
To this point in time,it is has not been possible to find craftsmen to turn out the whole kit at an even more reasonable price and with the means for great QC and able to provide a timely supply. The paddles and diamonds on the paddles are from China and are of better quality at a better price point than those available from anywhere else.
As I pointed out earlier, most of the rig is now made in the USA. The box/insert is not and is labelled 'Made in China' to comply with California law which requires all things made in China to be so marked in order to be sold in that state. This last statement is important.
The world sometimes is a strange place eh! Toyotas for example, now have a greater percentage of their parts made in the USA as opposed to many years ago, plus many of the models are assembled by Americans in the USA, so the American economy is stoked by this. On the other hand Ford, Chevy, Sylvania, RCA and many other American-made items, now use a lot more Japanese and Chinese parts than they ever did before. It is not as simple a problem to solve as one would like.
BTW, I am of Greek ancestry but born and bred in Canada. :) I mentioned it only because I wanted to point out how the world is shrinking so to speak and pure anything is almost impossible.
Whichever way one looks at it, the WEPS remains an excellent sharpening device and with the addition of the new USA made lower angle device soon to be available, it will be even better. Clay is often at a knife show near you. Look him up when you go to one and see how good it is for yourself. Check it out! In the end, whether you buy or not is your choice. As it should be.

The USA can't remain to be a super power if we do not manufacture any thing. The only reason that we helped win WW 2 is because of are we out manufactured everyone else. I wonder what would happen today under the same circumstances.

Matthewd,
I just joined the forum today, but I have been sharpening knives for 30 years-not my profession just a side. I just learned of the Wicked Edge today and have read several pages on it. It seems to be a fine product. I have used the EdgePro Pro system for so many years now that Ben Dale has changed slightly the carrying case and added numerous additional stones and tapes. I can move the whole system with me and sharpen anything from knives, machetes, and scissors. I have used other clamp based systems and find that they work well for small blades. I still use them at times today. If I were to buy just one setup again today it would be from Ben Dale-EdgePro. Mine device still has his hand signed base where he stated that it was made for Dr. Michael Lynch-me.

Many ways to get there, some just last longer than others. I still have my first Lansky kit that is 30 years old. I even used it to teach Boy Scout how to sharpen knives.

Built in America, tested in Japan. Did it work, Without a flaw.

Wicked Edge for me personally. I had an Edge Pro and had problems due to my user error. It just wasn't comfortable for me. I do very well with the WEP and the vise it uses. I can touch up my knives in minutes and don't even use my sharpmaker or strops anymore.
