Recommendation? Wide blade folder

I'm a novice collector. I just need to be nudged in the right direction. I'm in the market for a quality - up to $125 wide blade folding knife. I imagine the blade profile similar to the Microtech stitch. Open to brands but needs to have a quality steel

I would look on the exchange at knives that come up for one that catches your eye. That way u can buy it used and get way more knife for $125

Have you considered a Kershaw Knockout? It has 14c28n Sandvic blade steel which is a decent mid to upper range alloy plus they are available in Elmax blade steel as well for a little more money. It is an assisted opener with a nice wide blade and they can be found in the 70 dollar price range, so it will save you a few dollars.

Cold Steel's Recon and American Lawman have wide blades, great steel (CTS-XHP), the superb Tri-ad lock, G10 scales.

The Manix 2 is available in plenty of steel options too.

I agree with this. For a fine Cold Steel option with a non coated blade, look at the Ultimate Hunter. Great knife.

One other sugestion for a fine wide blade slicer is the ZT 0350.

How about the kabar folding warthog. Not sure if they're still in production... but you can find a few on Amazon pretty inexpensive. I have one that I bought probably 10 years ago. It's a pretty slick little knife.

Boy, you guys have kept me busy. Been doing a lot of research and YouTube reviews for the knives you guys are listing. I thought posting here would make it easier but actually all these great suggestions make it more difficult. Just a little background for what I plan to use the knife for: I'll be taking it camping so I want to be able to do food prep and various cutting. Another function would be emergency self defense. That's a big reason why I like the cold steel options, it looks as though they have great hold on the handles. And the research continues, thanks guys.....

FYI, we here at BFs are very good at helping you spend your money. :)

If you don't already have one, I would suggest getting a Mora as an extra camping/food prep knife. Under $15 and very light to carry.

Every guy needs a mora!

Recon 1 and Manix are both excellent choices. A lot depends on what lock you prefer. While both are strong, the Recon is like a bank vault - super strong but harder to operate. The caged ball bearing lock on the Manix 2 is easier to unlock, yet still very robust. Also, stud opening versus hole opening.
