Wife said she wants an EDC folder...

Why don't you let her look at a bunch of knives then pick the one she likes.

Always a good answer.

My wife carries a Spyderco Dragonfly and wouldn't switch on a bet. She has access to any of my knives at any time and sticks to the one she likes.

Let your wife pick something out. If it's junk, help her find something similar by a maker that you trust.

Buy your wife what I bought my fiance. A Dozier Ka-Bar , they have them in pink breast cancer awareness motif.

Aus8 ,( solid folder considring what it is) , very wallet friendly ( I think it was $25 ) and a very famaliar design ( lockback) , biggest plus- it is lightweight ( most girls do not like the idea of having to lug something heavy in their purse or pocket ).

My advice :)

My wife is quite pleased with the custom stag, Buck 112 in 440C that I gave her.

Since its going to be used for food prep, make sure it is easy to clean. That's why I carry a CS Kudu, though I wouldn't recommend that one for you in this thread.

The Salt line is nice, though I think they're pinned, so you can't completely clean the pivot easily. I'm not sure on that though, so check it out for yourself.

The Kershaw Skyline is flow-through, and easy to disassemble, clean, and reassemble if need be. The Zing has all of those advantages as well. Their steel is also just about perfect for an inexpensive EDC.

The Byrd Raven and Sanrenmu 710 are excellent knives in your desired category, and not too expensive.

Oh, in the Byrd line, the Meadowlark 2 has a great blade for EDC and food prep, so you might want to look at that, too. The Spyderco Persistence has almost the same bade, so that's a good one too.

I'd probably lean towards the full flat grinds for your stated EDC tasks.

While harder to clean, I second the mini grip. It is my wife's primary edc( Lord yes, she has more than one...and all pink!)

Kershaw's stubby new little Half Ton might also fit the bill. Its blade shape is fine for food prep and not overly pointy.

Mini Grip just because I love the AXIS lock

However I agree, let her pick and it will be something she enjoys more. Would also likely hear what she really thinks about it as opposed to if it were a gift she might pretend to like it and actually loathe it and never use it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I forgot to mention that in Canada we can't have any knives that aren't manual open meaning the rat pack is a no go. The Salt 3" actually looks pretty good so far.

I've had quite a few people tell me that, even the employees at the local House of Knives.

It's just not true.

In Canada you are not permitted an Auto with a button in the handle.
Assisted Openers are A OK

You can print off this ruling letter from Canada Customs and give it to whoever told you otherwise.

So I'm sitting watching TV and my wife comes up to me and says she wants an EDC. I was like, you want a what? She picked up the terminology from listening to me I guess and she wants a folder with a clip she can put in her pocket. She works with a bunch of guys so no pink ones for her. She said she wanted to look like a real knife and she wanted ppl to say that it was cool rather than it was cute.

She wants to use it for cutting her lunch at work, whittling a stick, cutting up chicken breast etc for camp stew while camping and she doesn't want it to be huge. 3" or so blade would probably do it. Also shouldn't be to expensive since she looses things rather often. Orange or some other bright handle would be good for finding it in the woods. She has a opinel her dad gave her many years ago but it's rather big for edc and the blade is loose.

Maybe keep it under $70 or so if possible.

Thanks

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it can't be "pointy" like my para2 because it's hard to spread mayo etc with a tip like that.

I still dream of getting some very important woman a DDR Mad Maxx someday. Any woman with one of those would instantly become twice as attractive.

Actual suggestions? Waved Delica. If she's willing to learn to use a knife that opens as you pull it from your pocket, they are very nice to have.

This is my EDC. It is a Buck (lifetime warranty). Made with S30V Steel heat treated by Bos. The Spine is thick and very sturdy. The edge is thin and easy easy easy to sharpen. The handle is smooth G-10. And my favorite part..... the clip. This picture doesn't show the clip, but it is the best clip design I've seen yet. There are two sizes, one slightly smaller than 3"..... which I have and seems to be a PERFECT size, even though I was very skeptical.... and one closer to 4" (I think).

It's called the Buck Vantage Pro. And it's the price you are looking for (and for S30V steel, you normally can't touch it for that price). And it looks good, with NO PINK!!!! :)
