Wifes trip to Boulder. Ref: "hardcore outdoors folks"

I should try the cedar. I always have my soaked cotton balls. Damn things light off first strike every time. I never use an actual lighter.

Wow. I'm new to this site and it's becoming an addiction after only a few days. Like everybody else has said -- good for you and your wife.

That's my buddy, the eagle scout. Of course we went out that day and practiced fire lighting and you should have seen his eyes pop out when he put a spark to some cedar that I showed him how to prepare. Wemt i[ on the first shot like it was gasoline. Without knowing anything about tinder, a firesteel is only good as a back up lighter for your stove.:D

Have you ever done that with pitch wood? That works great, as well. I typically backpack the Appalachians and there's no cedar there, but plenty of pine.
