This thread has been closed now. Any remaining pieces will be moved to our webstore. I am doing things this way to give you guys 1st shot at a lot of the new stuff. Thank You.
This batch of blocks were cut from an old gray slab that a trucker traded for a maple burl slab a couple years ago. Unsanded it looked like curly redwood (that is what he thought it was) but it was too hard and heavy. I set it aside in my workshop and forgot about it. I re-discovered it a short while back when cleaning my shop and decided to cut it up.
The grain pattern is kind of wiggly with some figuring. I thought these blocks would be kind of cool on a blade with a hamon or maybe a random damascus. The wood is harder than fir is normally and the growth rings show a fairly tight pattern indicating slower growth. Hardness is similar to maple. I would not bother having these stabilized (just my opinion).
When you decide which blocks you want just post "I'll take #s ...." and I will mark them sold for you. My address to pay using paypal is itsaburl@hotmail.com. US shipping is free. International shipping is $10 no matter how many blocks you get.
