Wild Blackberries?

A good survival rule of thumb, all segmented berries are edible. These photos are making me want to harvest some.

Are there an exceptions to that? Some sayings like that aren't always true, just want to save myself a trip to the hospital lol.

According to both Marty Simon and George Hedgepeth, two men I trust and two who are noted authorities to wild edibles, this is absolutely true here in North America.

I'd have to check but this MAY or MAY NOT apply in the tropics too. For North America though, rely on it.

Very cool, will definitely remember this. Thank you for the info.

As for tropical areas, I can only imagine the berries that may exist there. There are so many interesting and unique plants there that you'd think there would have to be at least one exception.

Here in the deep south (SC) you'll find them along roadsides fence-rows usually adjacent to uncultivated fields, in sunny areas with well-drained soil, 'sunny' being the operative word. They don't do particularly well in wet swampy areas. Here June and July are the key months and the more rain in early spring the sweeter the taste. Years with low rain and/or drought produce low mast, smaller more acrid berries (often bitter) or tart. This year
yield is a bumper crop...bon appetite'
