Wild boar hunting with a knife . .any info?

ok,this is a subject i love,i hunt hogs with dogs an knife,im no expert but been doing it for almost 30 years now,we try go out 2 maybe 3 times a week, ill try answer any question you have, you can give me a P.M. or we can talk on the phone,no problem,,
1st=check your local laws if you can hunt hogs with dogs
2nd=cost depends on how much dogs you are going to raise i have 6 when i was realy hunting hard when i was younger i had 13 at one time, food, supplies, vet bills, emergency vet bills, ect,i wont bullshit you i spend big money on my dogs.
3rd=knife size this is a can turn into a big debate, this is up to you an your skill level,i killed over 50 hogs with my kabar when i was younger, now i like the brkt smoke jumper or what i use now the m95 puukko ranger knife,if i had to recomend you a size 7-8"blade is plenty, your esse 6 is a good knife,i did a pass-around awile back an used it to kill a nice boar.
some things to think about try find some hog hunters around your area an ask if you can tag along, you can also start as a newbe, but this will take some pateints an time.training dogs is a everyday chore, dogs must be people friendly, never take a gaurd dog or one that bites humans the last thing you want is your dog attacking a hiker or worse a child in the bush, dogs must be trained not to fight with other dogs, horse, cows or other live stock.
i hunt almost all female to me they tend to hunt better in a pack, there is so much more so just give me a call i be happy to pass any info i know,,aloha
sorry i dont know how to link yet,but seach this on bladeforum an you will see the rat 6(esee)in action Rat RC6 Pass review forum
aloha big mike, yep those 2 blades did some work here in the islands, good knives

I used to read about a guy in tennessee named Larry Harley who made specific knives for hog hunting. He also would take you on hog hunts for a price. I also have some friends who went hog hunting with bowie knives and they took a few of them. They said it could be quite hairy and one guy actually had to pull hiself into a tree briefly to keep from getting run over by a boar. So i imagine it could be a little dangerous at times.
I don't think they had dogs though they just cornered the hogs. Well good luck if and when you go it should be exciting.

Goolge

boar hunting in FLorida. There is a place down there shows them hunting boar with a knife and prices seem reasonable

If i am not mistaken he used a 9 1/2 inch bowie

You just need to run like the wind jump like a deer to catch up with one and when you do catch up with one you need to be able climb tree's like a snake to get out it way or it might ****en kill you. LOL

hey mate, Im in NZ but Ive hunted pigs all my life

pig hunting requires dogs, there are two types holders and bailer/finders or any one dog can do all three jobs.

usually your cattle type breeds of dogs make the best finders and bailers and the more cattle/ bully breeds make good holders.

My pack is made up of 3 dogs, 1 is a finder/bailer and the other two will bail and hold on command.

so what I do is send out my finder and a second dog tags along with her, I have my holder on a leash, when I hear them barking or a pig screaming I run down to them and let my holder go and he just gets stuck in, I then set my other holder on to the pig and once theyve got a good hold I go in and grab it by the back legs and pull it backwards untill both dogs have a good hold on its head. I then flip the pig and stab it in the heart.

people that say you need an 8inch blade are all **** I use a 5 or a 6inch blade and It always does the job.

pig hunting is like crack once youve had it a few times your addicted its just that much fun.

the best way to get into it is to go out with someone whos got dogs and have a go, keep going out with experienced people and get to know how how to kill and dress the pig and get to know the type of dog and how they hunt. then you can get a pup off an experienced guy and start taking it out with you and before you know it you will have your own pack and your missus will start complaining because the freezer will only have pork in it and she will nver see you on the weekends.

If you have any questions for me send me a PM and I will help you out, also the NZ fish n hunt forum is full of pig hunting fanatics and theres alot of good info on the forum
