As far as waterproof... no. My recommendation, do your learning when you are able to keep the book in respectable condition. And when you learn to properly ID your local edibles, you eat what you know. Which is what you should be eating anyway, what you can positively ID from experience.
God bless,
Adam
PS: I found this book which is vaguely edible, though not at all wild, but about wild edibles. It's going to be my tool next spring for learning: The Forager's Harvest by Samuel Thayer.
