Daniel! I love this one! Can you do a similar one, like a kozuka?

Thanks! Anything Kozuka like is right up my alley. I had one planned that morphed into my A2 tanto but still want to make a more traditional one.

I look at old ones online all the time, an ancient one is a grail knife for sure along with a katana, wakizashi and tanto.

I'd love to make a kozuka stand (art piece) with the knife inset. Or a katana with one!

That is killer !! I really like that patina. That tip looks like ypu could pry open dumptsters with it ! Great job!

Daniel, I had to look twice to figure out what you had created this time . . .
I have come up with about 4 uses for it already, and that's not even giving Sally T a chance at it.
Really unique looking piece of steel buddy, very interesting design.
Be safe.
p.s.: By the way, what type of grass seed did you plant to get that "white grass" this time of year ??? . . . :D :D

It is a wild one. :D

I hear you on the "white grass" I am already tired of Winter and it hasn't started! At least it isn't hot. :)

I really love that design Daniel, and what kind of finish is that? Gnarly piece Sir. So is that a Chisel grind with a slight edge on the backside? What kind of grind is that exactly? Does it slice really well?

Sid

Thanks! It is a forge finish. 5160 comes with a thick scale layer on the outside when new and I further manipulate it to get that gnarly look. The finish is textured and tough as can be, the toughest stuff you can grind in my opinion.

Yes backside edge and and one on the chisel side for maximum strength. It does not slice well with this extreme deep hollow triangular geometry but excels at piercing and that sort of thing. This one is made for strength and all out battle.

I appreciate the questions!

I think of knives like vehicles, this one is like an old Army 2.5 ton truck. Sometimes you need a Ferrari, sometimes a armored truck, sometimes a minivan.

By the way I don't have a minivan version... :D

Sid- Shaddup and buy it!
:D

:D This one is sold!

Thank you for elaborating on the finish Daniel, I did read above lol (don't want you to think i'm lazy or non observant). Looks like it could pierce right through a 55 gal drum.

Lycosa, i did LOL at your comment, but i'm particular and appreciate sharp slicing grinds more than asthetics. This ones cool and "battle ready", but no room in my quiver at the moment : )

...By the way that forge finish is what thy call "decarb," it is a layer the steel forms as carbon migrates out at high heat. It comes out differently each time and is pretty much up to luck.

I understand the need for slicey grinds and while I make "hard use knives" I feel they really need to cut well. Every once in a while it is nice to make something that breaks the mold though. Even my .315" folders will be very slicey with a fine edge.

Oh yes, that's what I pray to Crom, and even though he "doesn't answer prayers" (Conan Ref), I'm putting the prayer time in anyway for thick-ass slicer grinds on future Fairly Folders : ) Hollow grind seems to slice the best from what i've seen. Probably why old timey razor blades are that grind. Thin Spyderco flat grind is slick too.

Decarb is fukn cool man, reminds me of my home town of Pittsburgh, and I can see the images of molten steel with the slag on top right now in my minds eye. Very cool too how it looks like some cool organic camo design.

Thanks for the info Daniel.
