even when car camping, I don't bother with a cooking fire. I like the quick and easy Pocket Rocket stove, or a two burner Coleman gas stove. If I am back pack camping, there is no way I'll be packing a cast iron fry pan.
Over the past 50 or so years of camping, I have utilized probably every way to prepare food in the outdoors. Most of the time now, I'll just be boiling water for a freeze dried meal.
