Hey, all,

Time to make this happen. I'm thinking mid-Nov (before Thanksgiving). Maybe a two-day event (arrive Fri eve or Sat morning, leave Sun). Need to establish a location. Looking into it now.

Here's a brainstorm of ideas to cover (not in any particluar order). The Gathering will be open to all skill levels and ages.

Here's the initial list:

1. General principles of Survival (i.e. heat loss/gain mechanisms, finding shelter, survival priorities)
2. Wilderness Medicine
3. Tracking, Stalking, Tactical Tracking/Counter-tracking/E&E
4. Swap Meet
5. Firearms Training?
6. Martial arts?
7. Sweat Lodge/Vision Quest/Night Sit
8. Primitive Skills(including but not limited to):
· Firebow/hand-drill
· Survival gear – failures in inclement weather
· Hunting (weapons)
· Flint-napping/tools
· Shelters: types/terrain/environment
· Pine Pitch: uses
· Cordage
· Primitive/modern navigation

9. Edible Plants/Medicinal Plants: identification and uses
10. Hiking Techniques (lockstep. Etc.)
11. Knife Talks: techniques and usage, types, purposes
12. Primitive knife/tool forging?
13. Climbing (Free & Rope)
14. Signalling (primitive & modern)
15. Water
16. Food

Please add to the list by posting in this thread. I'll be posting an email that you can send your contact info to so we can start getting a head count.

Best,

Brian.

First aid (unless it was meant to be covered by Wilderness Medicine already).

Thanks for pulling this together, Brian.

Yes, Wilderness medicine starts with first aid, and it encompasses techniques to use when far from immediate medical help. Improvised splints, etc. and much more.

How about something in the lines of survival psychology? I know that most people that post here are already survival-minded, but... what do you think?

I would have interest in this. I am familiar or have certification in most of these but the primitive skills and edible plants would be of interest.

yes, survival psychology is a Yuge theme that runs through survival training.

Stay tuned for more details. Due to a number of other events in process in Oct and Nov, I am thinking of pushing back to mid-Dec? That way, we can focus on more cold weather stuff as well. Not sure yet, but stay tuned.

I know possible dates are still in the mix and are TBA, but I did not see a designated location in this thread unless I missed it.. So exactly where will this take place? Or if this hasn't been decided yet, what are the possible locations?

Whatever the case, many thanks to Mr. Jones for taking the good time and trouble to get this snowball started!!

Blessings,

Anthony

hey this is pushed back from the first page, but i saw that it is still pretty new. i am interested in getting this going. is it still a possibility/reality?
also, dates and location would be great to know for planning/schedualing. the earlier i know the better, so it would be great to know.

this sounds really awesome, especially since it is pretty near to me.

thanks for putting this together brian. it sounds really awesome. also, i was wondering what the numbers (of participants) look like at the moment.

i may be able to come, but i really need to find out the dates as soon as possible

Hi Everyone,
I just signed up to this forum, and this place looks as good as any to introduce myself.

I know that I'm new here, but I would like to participate in this meet if possible. I'm 27 years old, and I live in New York City. I consider myself a urban yutz because I've never grown up anywhere but cities with at least 1 million population. Hope that's ok.
