Wilderness hats?

I have a Filson packer hat that is my favorite.

But if you're looking for light and crushable, it's pretty darn hard to beat a boonie. I don't like them much myself, but they're about as economical as you can get.

I didn't buy the tarp hat because I really wanted to make sure I had a good fit before I dropped $40 so I went hat shopping today. I found a couple of really niceOutback oilcloth hats that were really nice but weren't my size. I tried on a Tilley but I wasn't a huge fan of the brim. After about a couple of hours, I settled on a Henschel leather hat which is supposed to be fairly water resistant. I think I might be able to treat it with something to improve it's wet weather performance.

I have a Henschel and it sheds water very well.

I wear Stetson. Soft and comfy when broken in. Can be made small. Carries water (very handy at times). Maybe a little hot in the summer, but not that big a problem.

my choice too, the Open Road to be specific- I started wearing one many (many) moons ago I was working for the Forest Service as a wilderness ranger- held up very nicely, comfortable to wear, shed rain- it can take a little crushing here and there, but it's not a "crushable" hat by any stretch

many (many) moons later :) it's still my choice for a hat in the back country

Just got my Real Deal trucktarp hat.

Seems nice, haven't had much chance to wear it. Finally got the brim looking the way I want it.

The only thing I don't love about it is the inside sweatband. It irritates my forehead... I might look into covering or replacing it with something else...

Any ideas, people?
