Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official, 'You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done.'

The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued, 'Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?'

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied. 'When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.'

Then the chief leaned back and smiled.

'Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.'

"We go out into the woods to "smooth it ". We get it rough enough in the city."

I remember reading something along the lines of bear spray is just spices for when the bear eats you.

When I was backpacking in the Grand Canyon in the late 70's, someone had actually scratched these words of wisdom into a trailside, tombstone-like rock... "Why fart and waste it when you can burp and taste it." Since then I've tried to live my life accordingly. :)

not too sure who wrote this, but i have had it for a few years.

You cannot stay on the summit forever.
You have to come down again,
So why bother in the first place?
Just this-
What is above knows what is below-
But what is below does not know what is above.
One climbs,
One sees,
One sees,
One descends,
One sees no longer.
But, One has Seen.
There is an art of conducting oneself
in the lower regions by the memory
of what One saw higher up.
When One can no longer see,
One can at least still know.

Recited by astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman prior to re-entry of the space shuttle, Discovery April 1985.

"OH SH!T"

"SH!T" can be replaced with "F^CK" depending on the severity of the situation.

My latest favorite, "ffffffffffff^^^^^^^^^^^^^cccccckkkkkk", which was my last thought and voiced opinion before slipping into unconsciousness, when I though I was going to die last year. People talk about how when you think you're going to die you start to think about all the good/bad/unfinished things that you've done/haven't done yet. Not me. Just a low, moan-like, long, drawn-out "f^ck".

I don't know why, but it cracks me up every time I think about it. I'm laughing right now typing this out.

"The world today is sick to its thin blood for lack of elemental things, for fire before the hands, for water welling from the earth, for air, for the dear earth itself underfoot"
-Henry Beston

Some of my favorite quotes that remind me of survival situations:

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. -Mike Tyson"

"The fight will not be the way you want it to be. The fight will be the way it is. You must be flexible enough to adapt."

"You, you, and you- PANIC!!!
The rest of you, come with me....."
