So as some as you may know or not I am finishing up my BA and I needed a PE credit...so I found a wilderness skills class at my school.. and signed up thinking it would be an easy grade .. in a topic that I'm interested in... Today was the first day.. and I'm pleasantly surprised..the instructor spoke mostly about cold weather gear... and is extremely knowledgable..I also found out that there is a 5 day mandatory canoe camping trip in April as part of the course... This is the kind of schooling i could get into.

I recommend you fail on purpose so you have to take it again:)

I wish they had something like that for my PE credit in college - I can't complain too much though because I took a skeet shooting class:thumbup:

Sounds fun, enjoy.

Good stuff.
Make sure you keep us in the loop when you learn any cool new skills.

absolutely boys... I don't know if it will be heavy in the skills department but already he has presented some good information.

That's very cool. I found myself in the same situation my senior year in 1981 and signed up for a semester of "Wilderness Camping and Survival". Our "final exam" was a three day, two night solo in a northern Michigan cedar swamp in mid-December.

Fonly that's cool...I think if I was stuck for 2 weeks in the bush with most of the people in this class there would be allot of graves scattered around the woods by the end of it..LOL

HAHa, I'm sure I would be one of'em, I feel bad for the other guys going, I'll have to make sure I dont hurt their feelings too bad.:D

make sure you dont do the same, talk slow and find a way to speak with little words when its needed:D

" a F-e-r-r-o rod can go on a key chain, or on a simple baltric" " also this is a F-i-g-u-r-e f-o-u-r trap":D

Mapper he doesn't live up here does he?? wouldn't that be weird, if it was the same guy...

No, he lives not far from me, he's in Eastern TN. Believe it or not, there are quite a few schools that have degrees in outdoor rec, I should have done it! There is even a GS code for 'Outdoor Recreation Planner'. When I was starting out, I used to look at those job listings and drool.

Nice.... during our coldweather gear discussion today someone asked the professor if they'll need a respirator to warm their breathing air for a spring campout in New Jersey...I can;t blame people for not knowing stuff.. but assuming you'll need special equipment to help warm air so you can breath int in the spring in NJ??? I was like wow....Although she could probably spell (skills) which judging by the title of this thread I apparently can not.

That sounds like the best group of credits one can earn. Can you take me along ?

that is sweet!

Just don't go in there thinking you know everything, be a sponge!!! Most annoying kid in the rockclimbing class that I took was the guy who was like "teacher you forgot this and that and blah". No one wanted to be his belay buddy :)

I also suggest gymnastics class. 3 guys and 21 girls and they all needed help stretching.

Same with yoga......I know from experience.

RR, sounds like an awesome class. I hope you pick up a few pointers or a new way to do something.

This sounds as fun as my Field Bio class is gonna be. the entire course consists of a weekend in Canyon Lake...

thanks for the great imput guys... THis guy has got some experience for sure, and he know the deal...I'm gonna take it for all I can..I'm really hoping to beef up my orienteering skills there.
