Hello guys and gals...well, today I got my flint and steel in the mail and I made a short video...I thought it would be cool for all of us to share videos of our fun outside! It can be a fire making video, or shelter building, or maybe camp food prep...who knows...If you enjoy doing it, make a vid, and post it here!!!

This was my 1st attempt at firemaking with flint and steel, it was very fun, and satisfying once I got a flame!!! Not as hard as a bow drill, but a bit harder than a fire steel...in any event it was fun! I can't wait to see all your vids!!!! :D

I used a small piece of black flint, not sure what kind exactly, a oval steel striker, and a 1" square of char clothe...once I got a spark to land on the char clothe, I transfered it to some jute twine that I took apart and fluffed up into a birds nest shape...blowing into it got me a flame, many of you already know the deal with this, lol...just explaining it to any lurkers, or noobs reading the thread...

Thanks! I placed an order with ragweed forge for a new mora, and last minute I decided to add this...it was $11 for the piece of flint and the steel striker...The char clothe I made myself (it is easy to do, and you can find it with a google search) and it was like $2 - $3 for a large spool of jute twine, which will last a very long time...Juste twine can be found at walmart easily, but many places sell it like harware stores, home depot, and lowes...its great to add to your bag because its good twine for camp use as well as fire starting...

Cutlerylover,
That was very cool, thanks for sharing! Right now, I'm building a Wilderness Wiki named Klippe. It is only a day old and in its very infancy, but over the next month will grow into a very cool resource (20 articles with four videos so far!). You can check it out here if you like: http://klippe.funditor.org. I'd like to ask your permission to use your video in articles about flint, charcloth, and firestarting. It would highly complement the writing which we will be doing on those subjects. If you or anyone else here would like to get involved with the wiki, please feel free to do so.

Best Regards,
CanDo

If anyone is interested, and has a good record of posts, you could become an administrator. I don't want to hijack this thread though, so please reply either to my e-mail (funditor.info@gmail.com) or on my talk page, here http://funditor.110mb.com/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Funditor

As far as videos go, I'll have my own up shortly of a homemade firepiston being used.
