I know we have a wilderness photography thread and I didn't want to mung that up with some erroneous pics of insects, so I started this thread to share a couple of pictures I took this morning when I came across a very lethargic Dragonfly resting on some elephant ear leaves. (Sorry, no Fiddlebacks in the shot) It's color pattern is incredibly intricate. I must have looked this guy over in detail for almost 5 minutes before he got tired of examining me and flew away. Just thought I would share.

BTW, I think we need a similar hue of green in Shadetree. We could call it, Green Goblin Burlap! Although I guess Emerald burlap is pretty close.

I love dragonflies. What a cool shot.

Awesome!! What a cool looking dragonfly!

I enjoy watching wildlife, especially when they have no idea that you're there. We often watch deer and elk that we're interested in hunting from a mile or two away. I also have some footage of a couple bucks fighting while I was about 250 yards away waiting to shoot one of them. I ended up shooting a different buck that come out but it sure was cool to watch!

Here's a big wolf spider that was hanging from the swing set above me when I was in the hammock

Here's a cool shot of a Walking Leaf that paid us a visit while spending some time at a cabin in the north GA mountains:

Great thread and some awesome shots guys.

Here are a few more insects:

I'll continue the trend of insect pictures!

Blue fungus beetle (Gibbifer californicus) on one of it's preferred food sources, the red-belt conk (Fomitopsis pinicola).

I set my F2 down on the fungus to take some pictures and this was my favorite. The beetle crawled up onto the knife, obviously admiring it. :D

Great capture odaon! The spalting on that F2 is beautiful and thats one funky looking beetle.

Thanks man! It's actually hammered CPM 154. Beautiful nonetheless!

They're cool little bugs, typically either flying at you are hanging out on these conk fungi.

This guy decided to come hang out in my backyard this morning.

Nap time:

Wow! Some great shots here. That great horned owl is amazing Nathan and that lizard Gusnuts!

Kal-El, what camera did you use to capture the Dragonfly?

Swonut, that is an "orb weaver", family Araneidae. Wolf spiders are family Lycosidae, and they don't spin big webs and hang out in them. They burrow or find things to hide out under waiting for prey.
Just saying. ;)
