Will a Fly Press word for a San Mai?

I haven't tried forging yet and would like to give it a shot. If I was interested in trying to make a San Mai blade, would a fly press do the Job?

Never used a flypress, but for one blade, all you need is a hand hammer.

If your dies are flat it would be easy. However, as has already been said, all you need is a hand hammer.

However, if you've never forged before, I'd recommend working with some simple steel first. Get comfortable with a hammer, understand how the steel is going to move, and generally learn what you're doing before you try forge welding...
