I just have one question before I make a purchase, I've had my ESEE izula for a while now and have stripped it and polished it. I am now working on a natural patina and have wanted some micarta scales for a while. I was wanting to ask you guys if I put the micarta scales on my non coated izula will it rust the handle? I take care of my blades and oil them after use, but I don't want to have to worry about it badly rusting under the handle? Thanks for any help :)

The scales themselves won't rust the steel but they could trap extra moisture between them and the steel that would promote rust.

1095 isn't very rust resistant. That's why when I stripped my BK-11 I kept the coating on the handle.

The good thing is that Izula scales are removable, so you can take them off from time to time and check the handle for rust (if you get the knife wet, or sweat a lot).

My izula is stripped as well. I've never had it rust under the scales(TKC g10) but it has rusted on the blade when i left it in the sheath for any period of time. I started leaving a decent film of CLP on it when i put it in the sheath and i haven't seen any rust since. That was about 6 months ago. Before that it could and would develop rust within a few days.

Ok, thanks guys. I want to get everything but the grind duracoated black. Get a black Kydex sheath and those micarta scales. Thanks again

Hey guys, a little pretext.....I work at a hotel and big groups 800-1000 people come for conferences and they always give free stuff to these people...water bottles, pens, books and lip chap! As it turns out I have lots of new lipchap.......and lip chap works perfect to protect my esee 6 blade, I use it a lots have lots of exposed steel where the coating is gone. I apply lip chap before I sheath it and never had rust and it's food Safe!

That's a good idea with the lip chap. I also heard good ol car wax like turtle wax will work. Renaissance Wax is excellent too, MidwayUSA sells it.
