Will Magnacut become the only folding knife steel?

Awesome response. I don't fully agree with all of your points, but on the whole, I think we're ultimately on the same page. I remember when I think S30V and S35VN were first of the powder steels and was in everything. I hated them.
Really? I like S35VN a LOT. I think it is one of the best “all arounders” 🤷‍♂️
But if you are into the old-school carbon steel patina look (and easier to sharpen!) I can understand that 👍

Everyone knows, mon, that the original Rosta-Frei is the greatest steel ever created.

The average mainstream consumer , knife buyer , most likely doesn't know MagnaCut from Magna Carta ! :p

Or care .

So , most people will continue to buy based on other factors than advanced steel . Low cost , cool appearance , or whatever is popular, in their estimation .

1095 has been outclassed for decades, but here we are in 2024 with many makers using it on most or all of their models. Well known and well liked steels will stick around despite not being the current fan favorite.

FTR, I like Magnacut and 1095 and…

T-Minus 10 years in the future

"Hey guys you notice Magnacut is now a budget steel wow what a great value."
Happened with every other “super steel” that’s come out thus far.

Hell, I remember when 440C was the new hotness. Now most people (who don’t know better) see the 440 part of the designation and think it’s trash.

OP - no, magnacut will not supplant everything and be the only folder steel.

This. We sometimes forget that this forum as fun as it is, is only a very niche little corner of the internet.

Personally I don't own a single magnacut knife and amazingly I am still alive!

I like to try new steel. Not because I’m convinced it will change my life but because I’m into knives and like to see what’s out there. I have Sebenzas in s30, 35 , 45 and magnacut. My work requires daily, consistent knife use and I can objectively say magnacut is a noticeable upgrade over the other 3.

No, it won’t replace everything. Yes, your other knives still cut fine. but it certainly isn’t going anywhere.

For those out there who haven’t tried it but are quick to post in these threads about how they “don’t see a need for it” or eye roll with “just wait for the next super steel”. Youre obviously curious and you are on blade forums so you are obviously into knives.

It’s readily available in many knives from many companies and some pretty affordable options out there. It’s 2024 and is ok to be magnacurious. We won’t judge you here

Especially with the herbal heat treat you can't beat it!
