Will our kids be able to follow in our foot steps? CBS investigation on Steven Licata

If you do, I think it will speak much louder to them than otherwise. The guys that sent them letters saying "you suck, I hate you, go die." are only fanning the proverbial flame. That's the kind of mail they'll follow up with saying, "See, and there are other whack-jobs just like this first one."

I agree one hundred percent however, there is a great deal of difference between articulate and pleasant. Let them know that they suck, just put in more presentable words.
I am well known for being unpleasant when I feel the need. I rarely raise my voice though.

I sent mine in the minute Steve posted this on the CKD. Her is a quote from Steve's wife concerning the immediate outcome of this mess. (Taken from the CKD)

Thank you everyone for your out pour of support. We really need it right now. At the moment me steve and hunter are in NY. Because of this horrible injustice that has been done to my husband in the name of "SWEEPS WEEK" has forced us to leave my little boy with his grandparents until we leave HELL. Which will be by the end of this horrific month. So we have to leave our home we just moved into in Feb 2004. And worst of all my husband can no longer work due to a zoning law no one bothered to mention when we moved in. The landlord knew what steve did for a living and why it was important to have a shed on the property we were to rent. This man knew home business were not allowed in Garfield, so why didn't he say something? Also 3 neighbours are responsible for NJDYFS and the constant harassment from the town and now the &@(*%! from Channel 2. Steve has to appear on June 8th in front of the same judge who dismissed the summons the first time. If it is at all possible a turn out of support would be great. We know Uber *^&#$@% will be there with her little camera crew ready to defame Steve's name again.

Thank you all so much,
Alisa Licata

This is truly a shame.

I sent a flaming response to them as soon as I saw Steve's post. You can see what I wrote on CKD. I let my heart do the talking before I had a chance to cool off. I should have waited a bit.

Just my 2 cents...

I'd like to urge those of you that do write, to please take your time and send an articulate, well-spoken letter.

Thanks for bringing this up Dan,
Nick

absolutely Nick great point and where he has to face the judge a positive look in both point of view could be of more help we all need to be aware and informed...I'll up date my first post to add some of this...I sure hope this stuff helps him..

You know, the more I think about this, the more furious it makes me. I was mad before, but this is just flat ridiculous.

Even in a time when everything is becoming automated and computer-controlled, there are myriad of people still holding onto a love for true craftsmanship. They could have done a story on Steve and the way he is continuing an age old art. I didn't see any mention of knife being one of man's oldest tools.

Okay, I've gotta stop or I'll just get too pissed off again.

I'll try to copy my letter here later.

side-note:

Maybe someone could do a news investigation on an extremely dangerous female "news-reporter" that is intentionally condemning an honest family because of her naive misconceptions. One that would rather try to create the illusion of a dangerous situation and a dangerous man than actually report on any of the TRUE and REAL dangers in this world... Shouldn't someone so malicious as said "reporter" go to jail???????

Nick

your right Nick

if you guys would
Please go back to my first post and read the note I added.

Nicks got a good point
Mike Burch!!! or some one with the artfull skill for writing,, can or will you do a write-up from the points of view positive
informational (our side) for the presses? this is getting a flame in my blood going.. it can be sent or taken to the judge by Steve maybe for support also ?.

Hey guys,

I’m a luker here, but it made me mad enough yesterday to send a short note to the lady, basically saying, “you suck”. (Sorry Nick, good advise, but too late.)

Concerning your story on Steven Licata and his artwork; you've shown us what an uncultured idiot with a microphone and a camera is capable of. Now you need to educated and refine yourself and correct the mistake of your stupidity. Develop some decency and do another coverage, one that depicts an appreciation for his art. <<<

However, I did get a response…

>>>Dear Mr. West,
Thanks for your important and well thought out comments concerning the story we did on the man who was operating a business manufacturing and selling medieval weapons, in a residential area of Garfield, New jersey. Input from our viewers is incalculably valuable in determining what we are doing right and, sometimes, what we are doing wrong.
This story generated an abundance of response, some in agreement with the views you expressed.
Since our story, Mr. Licata has been cited for operating a business in a residential area and he will plead his case before a magistrate next month.
Thank you again for your thoughts, we here at WCBS-TV will continue to try and achieve the standards for reporting excellence you expect of us.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Fiandaca<<<

what was the address that you used..if you would?

and that still don't excuse her actions I don't think..by a long shot..

she'll be getting more attention after today I'll bet.. :)

oh BTW thank you for your input

Just a thought. Would one of the more profesional makers be intrested in inviting a news team and show them the artistry and skill that go into making your knives. When I say pros I mean someone allot more well spoken and organized as I am. I'm only a newbie and the Fbomb would probly fly allot :)
Just a thought

She didn't mention whether she thought Edward R. Murrow was really spinning in his grave...

Just got a reply back myself, very similar reading don't ya think?

LOL! Y’all got the same response, and I thought I was being treated special. ;-)

It’s amazing that the “crime” has evolved from Death For Sale, to Weapons For Sale, to “operating a business in a residential area.” Is that backpedaling? My call is the lady needs to buck up and admit she was “investigating” and “reporting” on something she had absolutely no clue about and made it obvious to those in the know that she was NOT interested in finding out the facts.

Another thing, just to pick, I would refer to Steve’s stuff as futuristic, not medieval. Heck, I’m going to send her another love note to point that out. I think I’m starting to get attached to her in a weird, uncomfortable kind of way.

If anybody can list the e-mails of the advertisers of this hype-type news show, I would appreciate it. I can do a form letter, also.

Dan,

I just hit the “contact us” button and sent it to her name, but here is the address: cfiandaca@cbs.com

Peter I think that bloody scalps thing might not make you PROs look good?
But I'll take a few if your selling them ;)
Peace
Bob

I smell a form letter

Edit: I'm a little embarassed, I thought maybe she really read it and really thought it was "important and well thought out" but I guess at 42 yrs old i am still a bit gullible :o

I am truly ashamed to admit that I ever watched CBS or have ever bought anything from any of your sponsors.
If you think you can take a small businessman that makes knives for a living and put him in line with “Weapons of Mass Destruction” I hope that your sponsors can think a little higher than that and go somewhere else.
Is this the best your reporter can do? An undercover operation on a self employed home business. Give me a break This story only shows how small cbs is and how miniscule their thinking really is

Mizz Cheryl Fiandaca
now that I have your attention,,
I don't want one of your form letters sent to me as you are sending out to the others,
I want a letter from you and the FCC please on what is being done here...

concerning your story

Weapons For Sale of mass destruction for sale.......
A CBS 2 Investigation

please forgive me for my bad Spelling

This is my own opinion..but many will concur with me as you've all ready found out...
changing your story after the damage has been done,, just don't show that you are a very professional
lady
Is this the way to teach your females up coming colleges ,, opening your mouth first then thinking?

a short Rant here if you please.
Was by chance your fathers name, Judge Roy Bean ?
" hang the bastid and tri him later"

I can't believe the editors or the FCC would allow this at all?? it is proof you were wrong in what you did
the damage is done girl
get with the program please ,, you screwed up and you know it..

I think an equal story on the other side would be appropriate wouldn't you?
You seem to have gotten one
side of a not so true story out there,
with no regard to the impact of what you did
it just plain back fired on you and your weaseling out of it by changing what you've written
and sending out form letters. I won't settle for that,
and I don't have anything better to do then be a pain in your
(tushie),,just to be polite..freedom of the press works both ways right?

Steve changed his story I believe not because he is making knives,,,no I think it was to save his part time job..from the likes of the uninformed that you used for your own,,,
in our news papers all over the US the Franklin mint and the Maryland mint (to mention just two) advertises knives and swords all the time what do you say about that?

what about the gun store across the street of the school you mentioned?? why not condemn them?
do you like guns better than knives Cheryl ?
or is it that you just don't like Steve? maybe you don't like the
long hair?? you are using freedom of the press for your own little playground I think..

if you are on a quest of your own for destruction, why don't you go
to the mass manufactures where knives and swords can be bought
for pennies compared to the art form pieces we make, and you are condemning..
please disconnect your brain from your mouth for a monument and use the ears God gave you to use.
and listen to what is being said to you..

if you are going to hurt someone with a knife chances are you are
not going out and buy an $800.00 piece of art to do it with,
a 2X4 or a fire place poker is a lot cheaper and easier to get,
anyone can buy them,
how about kitchen butcher knives, what I do and thousands of others do is make tools of yesteryear works of art and bettering what we do. and that's just the short of it..
NOW
A Car is considered a deadly weapon by the police and the States, at least it is here,
and these States put 16 year old kids in them and permit them to drive these weapons

and then again they run the liquor store sales also ?? which many of these same kids end up with.

tell me that all the house holds out there put locks on their kitchen draws to keep their kids out of them(knives),
they should you know,,these people
are no worse nor better than a man making a living making knives for collectors and the like..,
at least he will teach his kids as I have how to handle them safely
with respect to them and others.

like I said I would not buy even a $75.00 let alone a $200.00 knife or a $1000.00 knife or sword
to hurt anyone with ,,why
would you if you had the will to do harm? you can walk into sears and buy many knives for that same $75.00
give us a brake please and not print just half of what's said and twist the other..

you'll hear of the common kitchen knife and Carpenters hammers and tire irons used as weapons a lot more that any custom hand made knife ever was
If I were you, I'd advocate locks on kitchen draws and teaching the parents to learn how to rise there kids again
some respect of others would deter many crimes..of all sorts..
I'll bet you won't put my story or my web site up.

Sent a fairly cordial response to Cheryl Fiandaca. I am not sure if it will be read, or even counted in the opposed to article pile. However, writing CBS is the right thing to do.
