Will someone sharpen a knife for me?

This information interests me too, I just ordered a BM 156BT and want a good way or sharpening it, I don't really own anything good enough for it, my triangle ceramic is ok for 3" pocket knives, not for a 6" bowie.

Well, many users are perfectly happy handsharpening. It does take practice and some people are just better than others. With that said i use an ezesharp because it allows me to get better edges than i ever could by hand.

There are MANY threads on here with everything you could ever want to know about the edgepro. I dont have one so i wont comment. The apex is likely your best bet, and the only other major choice is on the abrasives package.

I chose the ezesharp because you dont have to switch the knife between hands when you flip it over, and the ability to use whatever benchstones you want. My setup also includes custom aluminum blanks that let me use adhesive sheeting.

.02 from me...get the pro...it's the most comfortable and versatile...get the scissor attatchment, it's great cuttting paper with out closing the scissors
zip. get in the box,so it's all in one place...get +6 coarse stones,and +3 200

Just so you know I have contacted EdgePro 2 times via email and called them and left a message once. I've got no replies at all. I would be very leery of buying directly from them as they don't even return emails or phone calls.

I have also found that with patience I can put a very nice edge on my knives with a Lansky Deluxe system.

$.02 for edge-pro... bungwrench, i too, hate when i get no response from a company! that said, i and i'd guess, thousands of other, lucky edge-pro owners, find they have no problem communicating with the company. ( i called and talked w/mr. dale, just last week ,on a coarse grit issue.) just remember that they're small and on occasion things get real, real busy and things can slip through the cracks.
if you "never deal directly with the company" one cannot purchase the best the company has to offer...the edge-pro sharpener, is top of the line and arguably the best in the world. make a mental note, over time, of how many EP owners are on this site. you are right, a lansky will put a nice edge on......
but an edge-pro will do it better, for the next 20-50??? years. 'cry once...'

No. It's your dog so you have to walk it.

Really, anyone can learn to sharpen a knife.

would anyone like to sell me a used edgepro... i see that some of u guys have a whole collection of sharpeners which might include maybe more than 1 edgepro... i dunno, maybe u upgraded to a better model and wanna get rid of the older one... hit me up:o)

but a combo waterstone of 1000/4000 grit (Norton, likely) is as good a bang buck investment as a guy can make in lifetime sharpening.. You'll never be tempted to throw it out cause it's unsatisfactory.

For the polish part, after you've got it to a hazy mirror stage, the pleasure you take out of the process is more important than the method you pick. Scary sharp hasn't much point in most folks lives other than bragging, past 1000 grit there's not MUCH reason for it besides personal pleasure. I like soft waterstones for finishing most blades, but use a surgical (translucent) arkansas stone for certain very thin blades that must be sharpened VERY precisely.. (exacto knife blades or tips of thin knives)

As a baseline you should be able to FEEL the knife getting sharper. The drag on the edge should tell you where it's touching, and the angle.. without thinking about it.

I can't speak for others but when i'm sharpening a knife i am NOT thinking. i'm in the steel.. fine sharpening is NOT (necessarily) A VISUAL EXERCISE.. it is QUITE possible to sharpen without seeing the blade..

I have a set of wheels that I use to sharpen knives with that can put a scary sharp edge on any "good" blade in a few minutes. I have a set of wheels that are about 16 years old. I put an edge on the second knife I made that was so sharp it scared me. After getting cut bad enough to require 10 stitches I sold it to this guy in town cheap just to get it away from me. Last night i cut up half a shoebox into little pieces with one of the skinners I made a few days ago and it would still split a hair up the middle.
