Ok, I know that you can make knives with nothing but an old file, a hand drill and 2 sheets of sanding paper. But let's face it, it just aint no fun. :(

So I am working on a first hidden tang knife. I realize that even if I have 5 vises, none of them could hold the knife blade flat. So off to the store and 17$ later and a few brackets and I have an horizontal vise.

Then while filing the tang with a filing jig installed I realized that I am filing the jig itself. SO I need to make a better designed one and most importantly harden it.

Then we have the filing of the guard slot. Don't know about you but 2 hours of filing to get to a point where I need to do it again cause it sucked is not my idea of fun. So a mill just got to the top of the to buy list.:grumpy:

Seems I work on the shop more than the projects I am building it for.Am I a tool addict?

There must be something wrong with the forums Spark. I think this is about the 20th time I've seen this same post! :D

Welcome to the addiction Padrig.

Rob!

Don't worry, Padrig - it'll pass. As soon as we evolve to the point where we no longer have hands ! Until then....

Rob, thx again for the good tips on my project a while ago. Still in the 'design' phase...lol !

Padrig, until they invent a robot that can use that file hand drill and sandpaper, then no it doesn't end.

I have to vent here......SORRY!!
I too have an addiction! However…… Being north of the border, our addition costs us 25 to 50 percent more, 1/16 the options and variations of tools are available and only 1/3 the companies will ship to us.

It will never end.

I have been so busy that I haven't finished a knife in over a year :( but I still found time to buy a surface grinder today :D

All knives are tools and most tools are knives of some sort.

Well at least now I know that this is a lifetime thing. ;)

And I know what you mean Dennis. I am not so much pissed off about the price thing as to the availability. And it's even worst here in Quebec. :(

The first step tp recovery is admitting that you have a problem and that you are powerless against it.

I will sit on my throne (toilet) and scour any tool catalog available and just dream of owning a different tool for every aspect of my life. Unfortunately I cannot afford every tool so I keep dreamin.

One thing that I believe is that working likethe old timers with limited "everything" actually makes you better in the long run so when you do get the tool you want you are a master.

:grumpy::grumpy:Dennis paish, must be something about commonwealth countries eh? coz its the same here in the land of oz:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:
