Will the real military Kukri please step fwd.

Man, would that S-guard on a UBE be sweet!

I think I had even mentioned I'd love to see that way back (well, feels like way back, anyway) when I first j'ined the forum.

some more talwar handled kukris...

Are there any European markings on your example?

No, but I sure wish it did. Mine is very obviously a knife that has be rehandled and kind of crudely at that.

Unless it was something very fancy or done in silver I don't think you would necessarily have a smith mark it. But then again we're talking kukris and kamis and anything is possible.

Man I'm glad a new page got started. Page two has so many pix that my unit times out before it loads completely.:(

And I absolutely Love looking at those pix. The next best thing in seeing them in a museum, but not as nice as gettng to handle them of course.:D

I love the Tarwar handles and especially those with the "D" guard, but I know they are very uncomfortable, but couldn't a modified handle be made without the top piece being put on?
And just a tad longer too of course since all the Indian Swords I have handled are way too short for us.
The "D" guard could be attached similar to how a Bowie is that has the "D" guard.

And what are those extensions on the handle that extend over the blade called again?
I saw it on the other page, but can't recall what it was now, something like Elanges?

Yvsa: click on "user cp" (the leftmost of that row of radio buttons at the top of the page) and then "options" -- well down the page there's an option "default posts per thread" -- that lets you change how many posts you will see per page -- you can set it to as few as five.

The new software has all kinds of kewl feetoors and I don't think I've discovered them all yet -- and Spark is still configuring it and adding more stuff. I just discovered something a minute ago -- click on the profile at the bottom of one of your posts. It's always said how long you've been a member and how many posts you've made -- but now it also does the arithmetic to tell you how many posts per day you average. What will they think of next???

Lots of bells and whistles most of which I'll never use but I suppose it is nice to have the options.

Here is another one that's a little odd:

There are no markings on the piece but, the construction looks good, and it seems to have some age. I have my exampled tentatively tagged as a civilian knife from the 40-50s. What your opinion?

The blade looks better than average. Which is probably what attracted me to this example in the first place.

The sheath is in relic condition but show much more age and detail than we would expect from more modern civilian knives.

Yet, the handle looks a little better decorated than the typical military model.

N2S,
That's a good looking blade! I would guess it's Indian, and your age estimate sounds right to me. If that scabbard were in my collection, I'd treat it with Pecard Antique Leather Paste to stabilize it and prevent further deterioration.
Berk

I don't have pecard over here, Berk, but i'll give that sheath a good dose of Renaissance wax as soon as it gets here.
Don't worry. I'll take care of it very well.

I have an alleged old khukri but I can't post a picture until I photographed it. In fact, I like very much for it to be identified.

I think it is similar to the type made by the Kami people because recently I saw a picture of a khukri made by these people in the Tactical Knives (July issue). My "old" khukri has the same kind of lines along the blade, except that it has an ivory handle.

The sheath has a flower emblem.
