Will there ever be a Delica 5?

Hi Dubbin,

Welcome to our forum.

On the suggestions; As Deacon mentioned, we pobably wouldn't add a 50/50 finger choil for the reasons mentioned. The 3" blade length conforms to many size limitations legally. To make it longer would make it illegal in many places. The handle is the length it is for functional reasons. the sharp point was too often broken by the market working this model. Much less of a problem now. Easy enough to grind down to a sharp point. Wire clips are best at tip up, 4 way is preferred by our customers. We watch and listen.

I imagine we'll make a Delica5 when we have enough changes to improve the model and still stay within the demographic market the Delica serves. A few personal preferences are not enough to retoool and change the basic design.

A thicker blade would be a travesty. What is happening? This a trend in general that I deeply fear. Thinner cuts better and the thin blade on the delica is one of its best features. There are enough 3mm blades and more even thicker blades being released. I must be the only one who would rather see a trend towards thinner blades. :(

The wire clip is unlikely due to the fact that the delica a is knife for the masses and will probably stay with a four way clip and there are no four way wire clipped models.

There is only one tip down wire clip that I am aware of and that is something I would like to see more of but understand there are reasons. :(

I carry a delica very often and love it! :)

Keep the blade thickness and please don't add a choil. So many Spydies have great choils--it is nice to have some variety.

I agree that G10 would be awesome.

Hi Sal,

Of course when I started this thread it was only posed as a hypothetical question among fellow fans of the Delica 4 to gauge opinion on what changes would be welcome if you ever did decide to make a Delica 5 in the future. To see that you take customer feedback seriously is very welcome and I thank you for explaining your reasoning. I think it says a lot about you and your company that you are always innovating and thinking about how you can change and improve existing products. I carry and use my Delica 4 everyday and it is a fabulously well designed knife. The handle fits my big hands perfectly and as you mentioned the blade conforms to local knife carrying laws here where I live. Any changes to the knife I guess would only be "cosmetic".

Would you ever consider making a sprint run of the Delica 4 FFG, with a pointy tip and G-10 scales? The green G-10 you use on the Dragonfly would look so good on a Delica.

Thank you again for taking the time to reply to this thread. Having seen some of the video's posted in other threads of the new designs it must be a busy yet exciting time for all at Spyderco HQ.

Keep up the great work

Jon
