I've been wanting to try out hollow grinding. I just happen to stumble onto a local guy selling 24 of these. The one issue I see might be balance? Just curious what you guys think?

I've seen similar wheels used on homebrew setups to some degree of success. Will it be as good as a Beaumont wheel? No. Will it work? Probably.

Balance MIGHT e an issue, but that can be corrected to an extent. The softness/hardness of the poly my be another, but then again, it may be about a 70 or 80 duro. Some guys like more, some guys like less.

If the price was good, I'd probably give one a shot.

There was a maker here who had bought a wheel or two from China via an AliExpress store, for somewhere around $100 IIRC, and seemed to think it was a good wheel for the price. Depending on what this guy is asking per wheel, I might just go the AliExpress route myself, as those are purpose built for contact wheels and balanced out of the box, as far as I know.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda new the answer before I asked the question. He's also only willing to sell in groups of 4 so that makes it less appealing as well.

My first contact wheel was a semi-pneumatic wheel barrow wheel that I trued up in a lathe. If that thing worked just about anything will. That said even the cheap Ameribrade wheels I have now are much nicer than that thing ever was, as the bearings were pretty sloppy.

Got to be better than what I'm currently using to shape handles with off a lawnmower... :D
