Will this help or just screw up the handle?

I wonder if I put screws through the existing handle fastener tubes, will this help to increase the strength of those handle fasteners or just screw them up and ruin the handle?

It seems very much not necessary. Why would you want to do this?

Yeah, seems like a waste of time. Why not just get rid of the tube fasteners all together?

Probably not. I got the point. Mind without enough alcohole just turned silly.

I find it highly unlikely that the slabs would come loose under normal use. I believe it's happened in a couple cases, but after what most of us would call abuse. I use Jaxx FBM to chop through a 10" thick tree and nothing happened. I have battoned and chopped with an SFNO, FSH,ASH1, Sarsquatch and a SJTAC as well with no damage to the fasteners.

It's your knife, so do what you think best. I just don't think you need to worry about the fasteners too much. My $.02.

Thanks guys. I was wondering what I would do for the rest of this weekend. :p

Thats easy,,,,,,clean polish an sharpen or touch up the edges(as needed) of all your knives,,,,,,, Should keep you busy for a lil while,,,,,,,,,,,DRINK during the entire process (this part is understood),,,,,,and watch Autry @ noon encore western channel,,,,,Rogers immediately following!!!!!!!!!!

At least that's what I'm going to do , unless, she who must be obeyed , decides she wants some sort of attention.

I'd consider beating on it until the handles come off then ship it back to Jerry for warranty repair and they will sharpen it for you too!!

I have used my FFBM for batoning and chopping. Sometimes the blade gets stuck, and I have to whack it on the spine or handle to get it out. And yes, the tube fasteners did allow the slabs to shift and become loose. By loose I mean that a slight popping could be felt in the handle, when swung full force during chopping. Not a catastrophic failure by any means but worth throwing out there for Paua to consider.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to put bolts in, although I feel it would be overkill... :D However, isn't a Busse knife a big old sharpened piece of wonderful overkill to begin with?

Thanks Greg,
Couldn't agree more.

the only thing I can think of that would increase the strength of the handles a little bit would be to remove the coating underneath and prep the metal and kydex for the best possible epoxy hold. once epoxied, replace the tube fasteners with torx head screws and stand offs, held down -tight-, also slathered in epoxy.

if you didn't care about it being factory, you could always add a few more screw placements along the handles using this method :D
