New 1.5hp 1ph/3ph VFD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is for sale and if i purchased it would it/can it be used with a beumont 1 hp 1725rpm motor for a disc grinder. Are there cheaper vfd ?? I dont understand the whole " handles 1 or 3 phase input. the vfd is rated for 1.5 hp--will that matter?? will it work for my purposes--thanks marrekz

I have a spare VFD that is brand new in the box. Still sealed in the baggie

Regal-Beloit T2115
Rated for up to a 1.5hp motor

Handles 1 or 3 phase input with 3 phase output

Hookup for EPM module and control strip for external controls.
Looks like a direct competitor to the Teco FM50 I have on my KMG. I have another one of these for a project I have not started yet so I don't have personal experience with this model yet.

Hey marekz,

A very simplified description is:

3 phase power is what industrial/commercial facilities are wired for. 3 phase equipment will not hook directly to household wiring.

A VFD will take standard household electric (220) in and output as 3 phase with the added capability to adjust the frequency, which in turn adjusts the speed.

Because of the need to ramp the power to 3 phase you have to have a VFD that is rated for the rated HP of the motor, or you can use a smaller motor (eg: a 1.5 hp VFD will run a 1 hp motor, but a 1 hp VFD will not run a 1.5 hp motor)

If your Beaumont motor is not 3 phase, it will not work on this VFD.

I won't comment on the price but if you find a new one cheaper let me know, I only know what I have in them.

Here's a picture of the 3 hp VFD I have running a 3 hp Baldor on my KMG. The red wires are for the remotes, the panel on the right is household 220 in.

Edit:

Here is the 3 hp Baldor and remote controls:

ok one of the beumonts im looking at is 1 phase from the only one he shows, but on the disc set up the motor is not shown. it is a variable speed so that means the motor has to be 3 phase--right?? Ive i where to get this vfd i would need a max of 1.5 hp 3 phase motor that will plug into the vfd which will then change it into a single phase out so i can control the speed and reversable availabilty??if that s correct then with a 150 vfd how much would a 1.5 hp 3 phasw cost?? any idea. then id have to buy the disc......im i off on this again?? marekz

All of Beaumont metal works variable speed motors are 3 phase. I am slightly confused what you mean by change it to single phase out?

Anyhow you said you are getting a disc, I really doubt you NEED 1.5hp for a disc sander. My disc has a 3/4hp motor and have never stalled it. If you have to push hard that means it is time to change the paper.

Here is the motor I have. That pic is NOT accurate, it has a normal 56 frame.

And yes that 1.5hp VFD will not break a sweat operating this motor.

A NEMA 4 enclosure VFD will run you almost $400 (give or take) brand new. You can get one with a vented enclosure for half that but then you have to build a filtered box cause the metal dust will make it go POP! I built a box for mine using a pair of fram air filters and computer fans for airflow.

well i was looking at the red one to see if it would work with that vfd but it says single phase, so i figured it wont work. i guess what i meant is that the vfd changes a standard 110 or 220 to 3 phase -which to me means you have to have a 3 phase motor for the control the vfd gives you--thanks marekz

If you look closely at my first pic I made that enclosure from an outdoor service panel. Cut the back out, dropped it to the backside of the wall and sealed it. It has 2 tractor filters and a woven filter for air. I think I have $50 in it.

To answer your last question, yes - you need a 3 phase motor specifically to hook up to the VFD.
