Will tumbling erase grind marks?

I think I read some where that tumbling would erase 120 grit grind marks. Is this true/accurate? Personally I do like a stonewashed finish, but it's hard to beat a satin finish also.

I am sure if the media is aggressive enough and you left it in there long enough...sure, but it will be taking off metal everywhere not just the grind marks.

You know what else erases 120 grit marks?....220 grit marks.

Tumbling should not be used as a short cut for proper grinding and blade preparation.

Bingo

A good clean belt finish at 400 grit, followed by tumbling, will yield a very nice-looking blade.

The amount of tumbling to properly clean up 120 would leave you with a very round point.

Tumbling is not a short cut, it is a finish applied to an already well finished blade. I recommend a 400 grit before tumbling.
