Will you still take a knife when you fly?

Obviously, having a knife on your person or in a carry one are no longer allowed. How many of you will still take a knife by stowing one in baggage. I don't know what I'll do if I fly again. I don't want to take a chance on losing a knife in baggage, but I also don't want to be knifeless when I get off the plane. Damn those ragheads (the terrorist ones).

I would definitely have one in my baggage. Probably a lightweight Spyderco. If it got lost, I wouldn't be as upset as I would my Sebenza.

Remember, the terrorists were individuals. They killed more than a few Muslims and Arabs through their actions. We don't have to call their ethnic group names. They did, however, make things awful ugly for knife users though.

I agree with anthony, while rage may be your first reaction, as it was mine. labeling the whole group of people "ragheads" itsn't cool. The bastard shiite muslim fundemantalists who hijacked the 4 airplanes are to be hated, all of the other muslims who live here have nothing to do with this, we shouldn't even be having this conversation. They are as american as we are.
As for the knife thing, I agree with razor (for once) :D I am never ever going to bring a knife near an airport, not until stuff cools off for a few years at least.
P.S. I just heard on the news they weren't even going to hand out the dinner knives on the airplane- this is getting stupid.

I am flying out to Nicaragua on Saturday . . . I will have a machete, a Leatherman Wave, and a Camillus talonite EDC in my checked luggage. Could not do the work I need to get done without them! Not to mention feeling naked!

I won't even answer your knife question. Shame on you for your slur. Lumping people together is a pathetic reaction. America as a whole is better than that.

With that said, we need to track down and destroy terrorists and their supporters. It will be an incredibly difficult job, but it needs to be done.

No, I have no desire to go to prison because I tried to slip a knife past Security, I simply intend to never again board an airplane for as long as I live.

If I can't get there by car, or if I can't go armed, I'm not going.

I will put a small pocket knife in my luggage, nothing more.

I also agree that we must not blame Muslims or Arabs for what has happened. This was the work of fundamentalist fanatics and is deplored by most Muslims and Arabs. To blame all members of these groups is just plain wrong.

I won't be changing my knife carrying habits, except that I won't even be taking along a SAK Classic. In my checked baggage, however, I'll take any or all of my knives. The most expensive knife I have is just an Endura. If I lose it, it's just another opportunity to buy a knife. I have no interest in owning a $100+ knife. Maybe I will someday when my wife is done with school and we're each making more money. For now, though, I just love my users.

Do not despair....I see too many giving up.

Times like this call for creativity. On my person, perhaps tucked into a shirt sleeve, I will carry a piece of sharpened, uncooked lasagna noodle. Sharpen the edge, perhaps on a file. It may be useless for stabbing, but it will make a good cutter. I'm not a stabbing type, anyways.

Of course I'll continue to put my carry knives into checked baggage, where they always have been!

The only knives that won't be making the trip are my meager little Spyderco Mouse that has always drawn envious grins from the screeners, and my new, way cool Spyderco Meerkat that was going to get some airplane rotation.

Keep in mind that baggage handling is going to be under a good deal more scrutiny in the future. Lots more surveillance on the ramp, and much more stringent bag-to-passenger matching. It'll make it at least a bit more difficult for items in checked baggage to disappear.

not even a popsicle stick on me when i fly back to mainland (probably the last time i will fly is when i get out of the army and fly back from hawaii) but will have every knife i own in my checked baggage. I too probably won't have a knife worth more than $100 unless I hit it rich and am carrying one of Tom Mayo's customs

Until it's legal again, I'll not take any chances carrying one on with me. I will still pack a few with my checked luggage. I worry about my checked luggage, however: for work trips I take a large, well-stocked toolkit, o-scope, DVM, current clamp, ect, along with circuit boards and electronic components (toolbox is very heavy!!). Probably looks suspicious. I also worry about my laptop: will I have to dismantle it to show that it is just a laptop? How can I do that without my SAK or Leatherman?

I travel to the Carribean at least twice a year on SCUBA diving trips. I always pack my dive knife, and a user knife (usually my LCC) for topside.

I am travelling to Turks & Caicos next month on a dive trip. I am now facing the dilemma of the knife ban. I suppose I can live with leaving my LCC behind, but I am very uncomfortable with the concept of diving without a knife. Monofiliment fishing line can be a real bastard when your tangled in it 100 feet down.

I guess I will have to contact the airline sometime soon. As a search and recovery diver I hardly ever dive without at least two knives, and have never dived without one. It's just a safety issue.

My travel knife is the one I usually use as my backup at home, which is mounted to my B.C. inflator hose and has a small 2 1/2 inch blade. I think I will definitely pack it with my dive gear, which gets checked into the baggage compartment. I don't understand what the problem is, It's not like anybody could get to it while in flight.

Turks and Caicos is responsible for some of the finest mangos in the world.

I like the lasagna noodle idea. It would probably taste better than airline food anyway if you got hungry. I flew once from Detroit to Miami and home again and I can honestly say I HATE TO FLY! I've driven to Florida and it is a much more pleasant experience. You get to see beautiful scenery all the way along. And you can have a jacknife in your pocket. I wonder how they will react to nail clippers? They have a file on them most of the time. You could file a hole in the plane, and everyone on board could be sucked out.

Akwacko, the term raghead may not have been the most appropriate term to use, however, I am aware that there are members of other nationalities who also wear turbins. I used the term raghead to belittle and demean the specific group of murdering, psychopathic american hating SOB's who did the horrorific act we witnessed just two days ago. BTW, in reference to you unamerican comment: check your history books and read about the Japanese Americans who were rounded up after Pearl Harbor, sent to camps and treated like second class citizens. It wasn't a proud moment in our history, but it happened.
