William Henry Quality without the Price???

Thanks a lot everyone. I will look at a few of the options given, but I think the wait and save may be the answer I needed to hear. Thanks. Please let me know of any other greats, I am always looking . I specifically am looking for a good hiking/camping knife that is similiar to the TOPS tracker, but not so bulky. Suggestions always welcome.

You can also choose to lie down until the urge to buy a $500 knife goes away. A WH is a very, very nice knife - but it's also jewelry. It's like buying a $500 watch or a $500 pen. You may not really need that right now. I just thought I'd throw out an alternative to the "go ahead and buy it!" advice above.

How did you know I liked my Rolex Watch and my Mont Blanc Pen and my William Henry's? :D:D:D

It is all about preferences and not necessarily function. I do agree with you, more economical alternatives will do the same job, but may never fill that desire to own it.;)

Finally the voice of common sense. I happen to have done the watch, the pen and the knife over the years. I don't wear a watch any more, I write with a Staples Classic Grip ($3.89) and I usually carry an original Buck Musckrat that I bought in 1972.

I guess since my collection is very young still, I will try and focus on good functional blades first. Any recommendations for a everyday folder, and a good fixed blade?

Bolt, send me your address to my email address in my profile, I will send you a USED EDC William Henry, B-09 locking liner. I have carried it for several years and it is time for a change. Now you can put your money toward a nice fixed blade. Send it thru BF so I will know it is you.

Nice Touch James - Thumbs way up for you. :)
Dave.

But what goes around comes around. I enjoy giving both through my church and other places. God has been good to me, to whom much is given, much is required to be good stewards of His gifts. Bolt seems nice and wanted a nice knife, it is my pleasure to help him out. No  for me, But to Him who gave it all for me.

i believe the high price of the WH is part of the wow factor.that said, i had the opportunity to handle several WH knives in a shop in san francisco last weekend, which by the way added some to the price, they by far are the most beautiful knives i have ever held. truly works of art. i have great admiration for the craftmanship, attention to detail and materials used. nothing but top shelf, even my wife said OH JUST DO IT, BUY ONE, i almost S--T myself. problem is i would never really use it. look at it , play with it , clean it, put it away. besides i really don't need another knife, just want one.

Now THAT is the attitude that we need more of in this world!

What James has done for me is simply amazing. His Kindness is rare these days. I too am a believer in God, and how refreshing it is to see His love and kindness being demonstrated by those that follow Him. I joined this forum to learn more about knives. I never expected to have my collection grow through the kindness of others. I hope that someday I may return the favor to another new collector like myself that sees a lot of the great knives out there as unattainable. A true treat to receive the gift of a knife, but a genuine pleasure to meet another brother in Christ.

James - You are right, and you will be paid back 10 fold. I have seen it and experienced it myself.

pholder - That is how a lot of high end knives are "used", and that is OK. There is real value to the owner, in admiring a fine work of art. :) My .02

Wow! It's not every day that I get a tear in my eye over anything I read on this forum. Kudos to James. You know where your reward awaits you. And with interest.:D

Fedex found package in ATLANTA and got the first time scan there, 90 miles away from pickup here. But it made its way to Bolt

Bolt will have his WH. But again, not because of me, but because of the One who has blessed me.

Wow. These occurances makes visiting the forums worth it. James, you're one of the individuals that makes this forum a better place to frequent.

God bless.

Well everyone, the WH arrived today. Jim was true to his word. It is a lovely little knife, and I will cherish it for years to come. My little collection has begun to grow, with a WH in the mix, I would say it is not too shaby.
