Wilson Combat or Les George

Hey guys, first off thank you for taking your time to read this and give me input on my next purchase. I like all different types of folders, from Kershaw up to my ken onion customs. I usually EDC either a large sebenza, xm-18, Strider or a zt 560. I have a ton of production folders, and quite a few midtechs, but they are from the same brands, CRK, Hinderer, and Strider. I have been researching and trying to figure out what midtech I want next. I have narrowed it down to the main two. Wilson Combat Eagle Flipper, or a Les George VECP. I would like some input from you knowledgeable folks, preferably ones who have owned one of them. I also read some where that the Eagle has 2 detent bearings, therefor making it really hard to flip. My third runner up was a TAD.
If you guys have any other suggestions I might have over looked, by all means let me know. If you notice I like slightly larger Ti framelocks:thumbup:

Thank you in advance
Elliot

Thanks for the recommendation. They do look similar but clearly the ergo's are different, the blade grind is slightly different. the handle width is different.

I relay like the Wilson eagle. It has been tempting me since I got an E-mail from them the other day. I say pull the trigger.

never touched one of the Wilson's but the VECP is a beefy knife, I have the 2.0 version and it's pretty heavy in the pocket but obviously feels incredibly well made. It's also very smooth in the action, thumb flips easily.

here's mine w/ steel flame clip

Thanks for the input guys, Hauling that does look like a sweet knife. Its really hard to decide, I have heard great things about both of them, and they are both extremely well made. I have a wilson combat 1911 45acp and I like it better then my Ed Brown Custom, which says a lot about their quality.

I would also like to know if what I heard is correct about the WC, that it has two detent bearings making it almost impossible to flip without using any wrist action

If you can get the VECP at Les' msrp, get it. If not, and you're looking at both knives for the same price I'd give the Les George Eagle a go.

That's a nice clip Hauling!

You do realize that they're both Les George knives, right?

I did not know that, thank you. I have only just begun researching them, I have seen them around the forums but have not put much thought into them until recently. My main reason for posting this thread was to learn what I didn't know, and get peoples input who have owned them

I have owned both and I liked the VECP a whole lot more.I don't think they are similer at all really. The VECP is quite beefy and feels more comfortable in hand where as the Eagle Is much thinner and has some hot spots IMO.Plus my Eagle was very sticky to dis-engage.Honestly and I'll prolly get a ton of hate for this..I don't think the Eagle is worth the money its sold for where as the VECP is.I'll be hiding behind the sofa now :)

That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thank you very much Sir

Didn't like the overall thinner feel of the Eagle, but at the same time, some of the VECP's had lock issues.

This is flat out wrong..the 2 knives are totally different. Same maker, different designs! Blade shape, handles, thickness.. Just goes to prove... You cannot believe what you read on the Internet.

I have owned both.. My vote is a strong one for the VECP. I returned my Eagle 5 minutes after receiving it. It is waaaay over priced for what you are getting. IMHO..

You nailed it with every word you just typed. My Eagle was sold immediately after receiving it too.

Ya I told that guy the same thing, without even owning them. It is pretty obvious they are totally different. Thank you guys for your input, I think Ill try to pick up a VECP. I am not a big fan of thin knives, I like a little more heft.
Much appreciated
Elliot

If you enjoy the hunt, look into Tim Galyean's Pro Series line. Extremely nice mid techs.

Thanks for the clip compliments, wasn't fishing for them but that was one thing I didn't care for was the spoon shape clip that it comes with.

I've handled a vecp and own an eagle. The vecp is much thicker and I found the thumb stud difficult to open with. The eagle opens extremely easily IMHO when broken in and it's wildly thin for easy carry. I vote Eagle.

I haven't owned either but I like the overall looks of the blade and such on the VECP better.
The Eagle appears to have a slight curve in the blade and I don't like that either.

However, put the starburst pattern on the VECP and we're good to go lol.

I don't think "thinner" means weaker either.

And I do prefer something a bit thinner.

Not sure what you should go for.

VECP Seems to have the popular vote though.
