Well I have been commissioned to do a series of 11 Thanos bowies for Wilson Combat. These are slightly smaller than my Original Thanos bit not by much.

Firing up the forge to begin forging out the bowies.

Shaping the blade

Drawing out the tang

thermocycling the blade to refine grain structure

almost complete

cooling and then done. Then 10 more to go.

Thanks. I ran out of propane today so I didn't get much done. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have some more pictures.

How does someone who makes a living forging knives and uses a propane forge run out of propane?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

it appears the 'bowie' business is brisk. If James Black had only obtained an exclusive on his and Jim's design.

Looking good Kyle. I'm staying tuned for this WIP and looking forward to seeing these develop. Congrats on the project.

We use it all?;) Look forward to seeing some finished knives, Kyle.

I don't have any gauges on the propane tanks other than pressure to indicate the level. I really have never seen a tank level Guage for propane.

Sure there is but just another potential leak source to go bad. You are not the only one that has exhausted a tank of gas.

Sweet! Glad to see you're posting this over here as well, since I spend most of my "fourm time" on BF

---Even if the propane doesn't completely run out while you're forging, ya still gotta take it to get it filled at some point! :D .. I usually let mine get fairly low before I go fill it up, although I don't make a living as a bladesmith and only use a 5 gallon tank, so it's not much of a biggy for me. Also, I have a gas station only about a mile up the road from my house where I can get it refilled quickly.

Anyway, can't wait to see more progress on these Kyle, thanks for taking the time to share it with us. :)
