Wilton grinder help

Hi Everyone,

This is my fist post. I am new to this so if I do anything wrong please let me know. I am looking for advise on a my grinder that I am making and I am having a really hard time. I never thought i would ever have this many setbacks in making a grinder. I had no idea what I was getting into. First I will update you on what I did.

I bought a Wilton Grinder on eBay you can see the link to it below. I bought the Grinder not knowing what 3 phase was and not knowing that I wanted 2 x 72 not 4 x 72. So, I pulled the motor and all the other stuff and trashed it. I kept the frame and ext. I know it is crazy but I will not use a 3 phase converter and the 5 hp was just an overkill I didn't want to get into that mess. So it is gone.

Now I ordered a new motor what will come soon. You can see what I bought at link

My problems now are that when pulling the motor the 10 inch wheel in back I broke. Therefore, I need to know what wheel I should look into buying. Size weight ext. I think you call that 10 inch wheel a drive wheel.

The second is that the Grinder doesn't have a square wheel in front just the 3 wheel setup. Could I get some advice on what I should do with that? In addition, the front 2 wheels are 4 inches wide. Not sure if that is going to cause a problem yet but I thought, it would be fun, to try to make them work. If you have any questions on the setup I am trying to run let me know.

Last thing is that I want to help the Knife community out as much as I can. I do not know much about making knives but I might know it all when it comes to eBay. To repay the advise that I am about to receive, if you have any questions or problems with eBay let me know. If it can be fixed I can fix or make better I can help. (keep in mind only within eBay policy)

You trashed the 5hp 3 phase motor? Pull it out of the trash and send it my way, I will pay for shipping.
 
Yea, that motor could've helped pay for the next one.


the 1.5 hp motor you show will need a 20 amp circuit to run

and it will be too fast.


since you are changing motors,
See if you can swing a vfd / 3 phase motor combo

It would only add the vfd cost if you did it now on motor change.

Wow.. I have spent so much time looking at wilton time and resurch and you are telling me i dont have a wilton? I am so glad. I was starting to think i was crazy or the prev owner was a total stud to put this all together. At least i know what to resurch. Thanks for the advise. Could i still ask should i buy a 6, 7 or 10 inch wheel? A 6 looks like its tons less money.

For the motor i took it to a local motor shop and talked to him about it and the guy just laughed at me and said "kid that motor is older then you throw it away and start over." so i took his advice and i did just that. But the motor is long gone went in my garbage a fewweeks ago. Sorry if i would have known anyone wanted it i would have been happy to ship it out. I felt a little bad trashing it.
 
Thanks for the advice but i live in a town house with a HOA and i am scared people will find out what i am doing so thats why i went with the smaller motor i am going to just use it on the 115 v at first. Thats why i am so lost on size of wheel i need. Slow it down with a 6 or 7 or since i am giving up so much power do i want a 10 inch. I live just outside of slc utah

Who said it wasn't a Wilton ?

Looks like it to me.


I think a 6 inch wheel will do fine, many do that anyway as a slow down measure.


The guy at the local motor shop sells new motors, to him old motors are junk


Craigs list would have sold it for $75 pretty easy.
Even if it didn't work at all, it was very scrapable, don't toss that stuff in the landfill.



Do you have 20 amp 110 volt circuits ?
 
I thought it was called an olympic in the other thread? If i understand correctly wilton bought olympic.

And thanks for the advice on craigs list. People talk about that site but i was thinking you could only get hookers on there. Next time i will try. To sell the parts not the hookers. Sorry that went bad fast.
 
I have no clue what amp and volt circuits i have. I was just going to plug it in and see what happens. Bad idea? Did you just save me from burning my house down? I dont mess with electricity. It scares the crap out of me. So i will pay for an electricion if i need to.

I'm going to call it a Wilton


That motor needs to be plugged in to a circuit that has 20 amps of breaker, proper wire size and outlet type

some new homes are made with 20 amp circuits, my older home is 15



Trying to run that motor on a 15 will probably snap your breakers or blow your fuses.
The stupid things you do after because you are fed up with that is what burns your house down.
